Ah well, another hour+ down the drain (sigh) and I'm still running WK19, and still putting up with data hangs and Blazer timeouts. ;-(
I stopped in my local sprint store last night, and the tech connected my phone to the upgrade computer to TRY and get the XG23 firmware and PRL updated. This time I even got hopeful that it would work, but again, no go.
They got my phone back to the tech within a few minutes, and "hooked it up, and started the upgrade." I was lucky enough to catch a couple quick peeks at the update computer screen as it was in progress (if I stood in the exact right place, when employees went in and out of their backroom, I could see the screen on the update computer).
I saw what looked like a pretty standard windows installation screen with 2 progress bars. For each component (I presume) the top bar moved along at a pretty quick rate to 100%, then the bottom bar would increase some. It was hooked up for longer than I would've expected (about 25 minutes), but something happened near the very end (maybe 98% complete per a visual on the bottom status bar), and it did NOT complete.
The tech had gotten on the phone with her tech support, and tried the whole thing again, but still couldn't resolve whatever the issue was. She was quite polite and apologetic, and let me know that they were sending someone out to the store Monday. She seemed confident that Monday evening she'd be able to do it.
Curiously, when I got my phone back, it still had all my data on it (and X-master running w/3 extensions active.) Hmmm, maybe they need to do a hard reset before doing the firmware update? Also, I had 2 VMs indicating when they gave me back my i5, so maybe having calls come in during the update messed it up? (ya know - it really shouldn't take this much effort on MY part to get this silly firmware updated...)
Well, I hope others are having better luck. Too bad I'm not going to Philly anytime soon...
Still trying,
webmom

Brian, the tech in Framingham, MA, now has the cable and tested it against an i500 in stock.
I would be updated now but he left at 5pm and I didn't get there after work. And he won't be working again until Friday, so I'm wondering if I let the other tech have a crack at it...

I took my phone to the Sprint store yeaterday and they said they updated it and everything was fine.... got home and found the same old WF30. Took it back today and told them to install XG23. The tech came out and tried to tell me he could not update the software, and to try the Samsung web site. I told him more about things I learned on this thread, and that the software should be on hus computer. He admidted he had the software and said he would give it a try....after 20 minutes he said he could not get the download to work, and admidted he had never been successful in updating the I500.
He offered to give me a copy of the new software, but that does not help me if I do not know how to install it. He finally suggested I try another store.
At least he did not break my phone.....
Is there anything I could do if he did give me a copy of the image???

Yours is an old familiar story. You just have to find a store with a smart tech that has the h/w and knowledge of how to do it. They all can d/l the firmware from their central server. Giving you an image will not help, it takes a special h/w setup as best I understand it.
Good luck,
BB
PS: There is a store in Winter Street in downtown Boston that can do the trick. BB
