Steve,

Thanks for the reply and info. I found out I will be staying in Oakland and in meetings in San Francisco. I now have two options. The Sprint store on Geary or the one near UC-Berkeley. Surely between the two of them, I can get this upgrade taken care of!

OK, for some reason I cannot post attachments. Here's the link for the i500 flash software and the program needed to flash your phone. Hell w/Sprint flashing my phone; I'll do it myself!!

That's very interesting...

You do have to pre-provision your phone after flashing it, correct?

I've been waiting for a convenient way to flash my phone. I even wrote down the name and # of a guy in Boston that did it for someone, as I will be there travelling there soon. This sounds much better. I will try it tonight after packing for the trip.

Can anyone confirm that this works? Does it take a special cable? I can't seem to find anyone in the region who can do this for me, so doing it myself is appealing, except for the fear that I'll fry my phone instead.

It does not require a special cable.

It does require a special courage, because if you mess it up you'll have a dead phone (unless you can get Sprint to replace it).

Remember that after flashing is done, you'll need to do a hard reset (otherwise it will 'appear' dead).
