But this lack of support goes way back. Just shows how special is the phone and are we folks for surviving Sprint's customer care!

does anyone know where to get xg23 in the milwaukee, wi area? thanks. incidently, i know that this has somewhat been addressed but i have wk19 and can use the net just fine. i use yahoo email and can go to other sites, etc. should i upgrade. when the problem with wk19 is stated as network problems or internet problems, blazer hangs before timing out... what exactly does that mean. i always disconnect when i'm finished does that help me avoid the problems?
thanks

Yes, but then you have to wait longer if you want to connect soon again. Also some other progs like messanger or BCPE may also hang with wk19. I would change my f/w if I were you.

Think about it like this...
WK19 is like dial-up - it forces you to wait to logon each time you want to connect to the net.
XG23 is like cable - it's always on (well actually it stays on longer after you log in once)
For me it's a big difference since I like to use my data services quite a bit. For a less data intensive user it might not matter.

New phone, old firmware
Just got my new i500 in the mail from SprintPCS (leaving Cingular) and the firmware is WK19. Amazing. Am having to drive to Eureka (150 miles) to find a tech who knows anything about firmware for this phone. Tried calling a few stores in Sacramento and got the standard drivel about downloading it or using *2, etc. etc. What a riot.

Just because they say on the phone they can do it, does not mean they can. The store in O'Fallen, Illinois told me they could do this, so I drove 100 miles and waited 1 hour and they couldn't upgrade it. I hope your experience is better than mine.

I would like to know this too. I can tell you that the store in Fairview Heights cannot do the upgrade. They told me on the phone they could, but after an hour in the store, they decided they couldn't.

AUSTIN AREA XG23 UPDATE LOCATION
I won't get my hopes up yet, but I found that the Sprint store in Round Rock, just north of Austin, has the XG23 firmware and the cable... I plan to go there in the morning to get the update. I will post my results.
It might help you guys to tell the store you need the "Sprint Software" update called XG23. I spoke to a manager at another Sprint store that said to have them look at the Eticket for the i500 (which will tell them the latest version is XG23) and then have them look at the version your phone has, which they should be able to tell on their internal screens using your phone number.
GOOD LUCK and wish me luck.

Here's my update...
Nathan at the Round Rock (near Austin) Sprint store did the XG23 upgrade for me in about 20 minutes. He was very helpful. I had prepped him on the phone the night before. After I told him it was "Sprint software" and called "XG23" he found in under a "Samsung" folder on his computer.
He came out to talk to me after performing the upgrade and said that he also updated my RPsomething (roaming places/towers list)... He said every Sprint user should do this once ever 6 months (at least). As they add towers, the list becomes more complete, which helps with reception, obviously. Apparently they can do that update over the air, so you can go in to have it done or call in to have it done. He said mine was REALLY old.
I explained how much trouble people were having getting the XG23 upgrade and he said, "Send them to me, I'll take care of it."
SO, Nathan, at the Sprint store on the southwest corner (kinda) of I-35 and 1325/Louis Henna in Round Rock. Ph num 512-733-7767.

I just got the phone, how can I tell what firmware it has?
I actually live in Austin, so I could probably go to that store to do the upgrade.
