Any body had a good experience getting the new firmware in the Detroit-Metro area? I would like to know in case I decide to take the plunge.

Thanks.

blazerboy or jlv - you wouldn't happen to know the names of the people I need to talk to on those stores? (or what's a day/time I can be guaranteed they'll be there).

thanks

Still no guru to help me see if I have another problem. My old I300 sees the Thinkpad just fine and vice versa. The old i300 can send to the i500 and vice versa. But even with the XG23 software the i500 can't talk to the Thinkpad. The Thinkpad is a T40 with Windows 2000 and SP4. Any ideas?

Michael D. is the name of the Winter Street store manager, I do not know the name of the tech, but may find out tomorrow. Its phone is 617/542-3777. I have found the tech there around noon.

Good luck,

BB

I had that problem until I got the new firmware (could exchange data but not be seen by the thinkpad). I have an X31 and T40 but not an X40, so I cannot tell for sure.

I assume you show "IR to PC/Handheld"

as an "available connection" in Preferences/Connection

I also assume you have IR check on the hotsync manager and the IR port is active (enabled) on the T40 and you really do have xg23. If all that is true it might be a hardware problem and try to find a store that will give you a new phone or at worst an exchange.

Look in this thread. We've both posted the name of who you need to talk to at each store.

psst: Blazerboy: the Framingham store is still better. Free parking, too

PPPPPS: Parking is free in Framingham because no one wants to go there. Yet there is no accounting for taste.

Thanks guys. Sorry if I missed the name in the thread. Long thread. Lots of stuff.

I'll probably get it upgraded this weekend.

Yes blazrboy, all of those things are true. I even have an old i300 that sees the laptop and vice versa. The laptop is a T40, Windows 2000, SP4. The i300 will beam to the i500 and vice versa and all seems well until you try to synch with the i500 and the laptop.

The i500 does have XG23, verified a couple of times. And strangely enough I had been connected to Vision last night and thought it was closed but when I got up this morning my fully charged phone was dead. Is not connecting a problem with XG23?

My Sprint store is ordering another phone for me, though I'm a bit worried about getting a refurbished model actually since mine is pretty new.

Will keep everybody posted and updated.

Do not worry too much about a refurbished model; just test it out and if it works it is a good as new. I assume the tech ran a test on your phone and it showed no errors. Sounds like a one off thing.

All the best.
