International Text messaging
Hi,
I have a SPH-I500 with Sprint PCS service and I have been using the Text Messenger software for SMS.
I have been trying to send text messages to a friend in the UK who has T-Mobile and the field for number is not long enough for the country code/city code/ phone number, so I haven't been able to send anything.
Also, my phone is not receiving any messages from her either, even that she has a confirmation that the message was sent it seems that the message is lost because it doesn't ever show on my phone.
Local messaging work fine, and the Text Messenger software has been working great for me but only for local phones.
Any suggestions, ideas????

I'm going to bump this old thread up, just to show that I searched for the answer first
I've had my i500 since the summer 2003 release and love love love it. I'm a heavy Palm user. I haven't needed text messaging up to now, but I've got a situation coming up next month where texting will be critical.
This evening I installed scott/monkeyboy's Text Messenger and it seems to work fine (thanks guys!). However, my critical need will be for the ability to TM an international number -- +49/Germany to be specific. Can anyone tell me what that situation is on the i500? I'll pay for software, or per-message charges, if needed ...

You can read:
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/585687-post97.html
and surrounding posts for one response to this question. Unfortunately I don't think the situation has changed much, although I do recall stumbling across some possible int'l SMS websites that *might* serve as a possible gateway.
If you identify an easy to use int'l SMS gateway, let us know and maybe something could be done...

Can the i500 make International phone calls? What is the dialing method - precisely what prefixes are needed before the actual overseas number?
I believe that we also need to contact Sprint to engage international calling as an option.
I spoke to Sprint who assured me (twice) that my phone has international service enabled. Of course, though, I cannot connect to make an international call - at least using 011 country code and the #. Also, a + prefix also does not work.
Sprint customer service (a mosnomer of course) has not a clue. I appreciate anyone's help.
Thanks,

I haven't called out from US - but if you get signal in foreign countries (i.e., Mexico) calling out and in is standard - using 001, etc to US.
don't know why you can't get out - I usually use a calling card - cheaper - and goes to any country. Incoming should be no problem. Sprint is pushing the international service - recently

But, unfortunately no one at Sprint can explain how to make calls overseas from the US. What an ethnocentric country this is. I understand that everything revolves around the US, but Sprint people are so in the dark it's beyond belief.
I tried + sign, the country code and the num ber, including the first 0 of the number and removing the first 0. I tried also the typical landline 011 access to no avail. I received a text message from SPrint saying I have international calling.
What amazes me is that everyne at SPrint is so sure of what they are saying. I prefer to speak to someone in India who may have pronunciation issues, but who typically has a better command of English, is more polite and generally better educated than those I've spoken to. Actually, I have had worse pronunciation at Sprint from Americans.
Anyway, I've spent hours on variois websites looking for clear directions on how to call overseas (Australia, Singapore, etc) from the USA, but I have found noting.
Thanks.

For what it is worth, when I could not send an e-mail sms to t-mo UK using the above format, I contacted their CS. It turns out that in the UK one cannot send a text message to a phone via an email program. You can do so using their server from their site (t-mobile.co.uk) but only if you have an account with them for such an action generates a charge. You get charged for outgoing texts but not incoming ones (much like the phone usage).
And so it goes...
