Question Unknown (or blocked ID) Caller RingTone

I sure wish we could silence the ringer for "unknown" callers or those who block caller ID.

I have all of my regular callers (family, friends, coworkers, etc.) categorized by ringer tones. This is EXTREMELY helpful, since our beloved I-500 doesn't have an external display.

I want to silence and/or send immediately to voice mail those calls from RUDE people who block their numbers. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

...follow up:

I just called customer service and asked if Sprint offered special handling for "unknown calls", similar to the "Privacy ID" service on home lines.

The representative said that this service isn't offered on mobile lines yet. Anyone beg to differ? We all know how "knowledgeable" the level one CSRs are

My guess would be that he's looking for something similar to what you can get through Qwest.

i.e. If the phone number is blocked, it plays you a recording that gives you the option to type in your phone number or hang up.

I have this on my home phone, and I love it. Most telemarketer types won't take the time to put in a phone number.

Here is an example of why this might be a good idea:

When my husband calls me from his cell phone while he is roaming, the caller id says "UNKNOWN." If he calls the house, he just types in the last four digits of his phone number and I know it is him.

Yeah, that would be great if Sprint offered a prompt for blocked callers to enter a number. But, my question actually related to I-500 options. If you notice, there is no option to silence the ringer for certain types of calls.

Other phone models I've owned had the option to silence the ringer for "unknown" calls, sending them to voice mail after a predefined number of rings.

Since that option isn't available, I chose a really corny ringer for unknowners...I just flip open the phone and close it immediately to silence the ringer. Like you said, telemarketers usally just hang up. But, those so-called friends of mine who simply block their numbers when calling DESERVE to get my voice mail.

FYI....

Just so you know, instead of opening and closing the phone, you can just push the down volume button which will also stop the ringing. You may have already known that, but just in case....

Re: FYI....

Buttons! You struck a nerve

I can't seem to find the buttons when I need to. But I press them all them time (accidentally) when I DON'T need to.

That probably explains all the recorded conversations...hahaha...buttons are so poorly placed on the I-500
