Grafitti area DEAD

I was inputting a new appointment last night, when the grafitti area stopped accepting any input. Will not take letters or numbers, and trying to bring up the alphabet screen does not work either.

Tried a soft reset - no help.

Has anyone else had this problem? Do I need to get a replacement?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you

I had this same issue on day 2 of owning the phone. I took it back to Sprint who promptly replaced and I've had no problems since with the replacement phone.

You are definitely going to want to get a replacement. Until you do, you might try pushing your thumb down on the grafitti area like you are trying to smooth out the whole thing. (I'm not sure how else to desribe it.) When my grafitti was going out, this would sometime restore operation. This got me through until the sprint store could get my replacement.

You guys are the BEST!
I used my thumb as indicated and its working again. Only problem now is if I take it to Sprint, they wont replace it - I will have to wait till it goes out again

Thank you, thank you, thank you

Hey guys, I have the same problem. my graffiti is going crazy every time I touch it it goes to calculator or brings out the menu or opens something else etc. I tried the thumb trick but no luck.
Here is my question; I traded the phone for my Treo 600, so I am wondering if any of you know if I have to show a reciept or any proof of purchase at the sprint store in order to change it for a new one (or get it fixed). also I dont have the box.
Does anyone know if I walk to a Sprint store just with the phone if I will get an exchange ? I do have insurance though.

Thanks.

Joe.

Graffiti Stops Working

I had the same problem. Temporary fix:
Soft re-set and re-calibrate works most of the time.

I had a running battle with Sprint. Local store wouldn't replace it yet a manager at the Oklahoma office said it would be replaced no problem.

After a lenghty battle with the local Manager he put in a request and I got a refurbished unit within a couple of days. His exact words were: "I don't want to get into a pissing contest with you over this". Charming little fella; hey?

I've had the replacement unit for a couple of days and so far I have had no digitizer problems. On another note, I just added BugMe for note taking and I'm pleased that I did.

I have the exact same problem. My graffiti area stops working for some random amount of time, and then if I leave the phone for awhile, and come back, it will work again. I have never had the area cycle from working to not-working while I was using the phone (wait, except for right now.) I just picked up the phone and it wasn't working again. I tried the thumb trick, and it started working. This sounds like a loose cable or something. If that is the case, it also sounds like this is a pervasive problem, and not likely to be fixed by getting a replacement phone.

I also REALLY take care of my phone, no scratches, no dents, no smudges on the LCD, etc. I don't want to get a refurbished phone that may have some of these things, or even worse, have been used by a smoker before. I don't care what you do, you can never get that latent smell out of it.

Maybe there will be a general acknowledgement from Samsung that there is a problem, and they will have a recall? I just submitted my complaint on their website. If anyone else wants to do the same, here is the site: http://www.samsungtelecom.com/ContactUs/index.asp

BTW, a soft-reset and re-calibration has never worked for me. It only seems to be leaving it alone for awhile or the thumb trick that works for me.

Anybody else have any similar experiences?

th3, good call on the poll. It has a lot of useful info. on this problem. For those that want to see it, http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...0&pagenumber=1

I don't see any definitive answers there, though. It sounds like there are four main options:

1. Return the product where you bought it from, and get a new one. Frye's and Best Buy were mentioned.

2. Ship it to Samsung, who can fix it.

3. Take it to Sprint, who will give you a refurb.

4. Live with it, by using third-party tools to get around it.

I like option 1 the best, but unfortunately, I bought it from Sprint, and I don't want them giving me a refurb. Any thoughts?
