I heard about this happening, and now it has happened to me. There is a small scuff mark where I write graffitti, and now it is totally impossible to write it accurately. This happened under completely normal use. Any suggestions or similar experiences?
I would add a screen protector now. My old 6035 got really scratched up. A friend gave me one for my i500 but I don't know where he got it. I'm sure you can search this site to find out where to get a good one. Be sure to get one for the main screen too.
Since the early Palm days with the Palm 1000 and Personal Palm, I have always put 3M Scotch Blue tape on my Graffiti areas, with good results. I have done this with my I500 and it works well. It is the "blue" Scotch tape, which is the easy-to-remove type, for graphic arts use. Don't use the standard green Scotch tape as it is too tacky.
I found that 'scotch' desk tape has worked on my 'visor' but of course I waited too late. I'm wondering with the new write directly on the screen versions if there is a low cost 'better' solution. I have found if it is not handy and cheap that it is too easy to say "I'll get it later."
One thing that I have learned with Palms, is always rub the tip of your stylus on your shirt or some other material before using it on the Palm. If a spec of something attaches itself to the tip, you wind up dragging it around the graffiti area or your screen.
I can't believe how much they want for 12 sticky things for the screens! There must be a cheaper place to buy the thin plastic ... like in rolls or something?
I might just try some of that ipod scratch remover ... great tip BostonDon!
Careful with using iPodCleaner on TOUCH-SENSITIVE DISPLAYS???
Hi Rich,
Please be careful - you may want to ignore the iPod Cleaner on your PDA screen as per past experiences of one user as he comments:
"ipod doesn't have a touch screen like the treo and all the pdas on this site do, you would end up ruining the screen and phone using this product and needed to get a new one, so just drop $20 at the most when you first get one of these phones and buy a screen protector"
The key is to use the plastic Screen Protectors from the start - that is what I did and it's not expensive when you consider it keeps the screen in "showroom condition". Get the screen protectors.

Thanks Don. I'm not so concerned with my screen as I am with the writing graffitti area. My new i500 is still in great shape ... I will get screen protectors but my Visor is so bad that I can't seem to use it anymore. Scrape Scrape Scrape! If you know what I mean.
Do they make screen protectors sized for the i500 or in a roll the correct width? If now ... what size should I buy to get the best cut for the dollar. (man do I sound cheap!)
I also need to remove the scratches just from the graffitti area - not worried about the screen. Does this ipod thing really remove scratches or just clean it? Anyone had a bad scratch on the graffitti pad that they removed with this stuff? If I can't remove it I am going to exchange my phone, it has rendered graffitti worthless.
I have not used this on my i500. But I can tell you that I used it (including the heavy scratch remover #3) on my old m505 screen with excellent results.
My advice: try the #2 first. If that doesn't get good results, try #3. Don't freak if it clouds the surface--you next have to apply & remove #2 to remove the fine scratches #3 produces.
This stuff is great for all plastic polishes. Unfortunately, it's not much help on *painted* plastic surfaces, like the i500 case (I've tried).
I use Fellowes Writeright screen protector. I bought a package for my 6035 and I still have quite a few left. I did not change it every month. I did not have to, it lasts several months for each application. The package contains 12 protectors and it is for Palm m100. For my i5, I am on the second month of the first application. I do not remember how much I paid for the package, but I do remember it was pricey-~$24.
The size is too big breath wise but I cut it down with an exacto knife. Please don't use exacto knife directly on the screen or the Graffiti area . I have made cardboard templates for both the screen and the Graffiti areas to size the protector for my i500. I suppose by now they probably have a product for i500. I have not looked recently.
It is a small price to pay for a peace of mind.
