Simple Network Paging Protocol. It allows for sending text messages to pagers/phones over the internet and not have to depend on e-mail or a dial out modem. Check this link for more info. http://www.snpp.info/ It allows you to send a message and not have to depend on the email server being online and cutting out the middle man. If you select carriers you might notice Verizon is on the list. This could be a major advantage of the 7135 over the i330 or i500.

Hmm, interesting. Did some reading on that site. It seems though "Verizon" refers to their numeric/alpha paging network and not its cellular phones. I believe Verizon acquired AirTouch paging perhaps vice-versa; hence Verizon being listed as snpp.airtouch.com -- the same as AirTouch paging on the top of the page.

The only cellular carrier that seems to be listed is Nextel. Hmmph, if only Nextel had a smartphone.

Actually I see another site that list Verizon as supporting pagers with snpp. I would like to confirm this but I do not know anyone with a Verizon phone.

Sprint and SNPP

Sprint has free SNPP for iDEN (snpp.nextel.com) and CDMA (snpp.messaging.sprint.com) on port 444.
