Ok I need help! I can't get the phone skin to upload. I used the photoshop template, replaced the backgrounds, and saved it as a jpeg. When I try to upload I keep getting an error message. I have been marking them private does that matter? Any help?
No image specified, can not generate skin. I'm sorry, but there was an error trying to create your skin. Please go BACK and make sure you have selected a valid jpeg image before continuing
Using the provided template I saved the photoshop image as a jpeg. I changed the quality different times to see if the file was to large.
I just uploaded one successfully. Are you specifying which file you are uploading before hitting the upload button? You might also be running into problems if some other application has the .jpg file open.
Sounds like the file was not uploaded from your machine. Either you didn't select it with the 'browse' button, the image was too big to be uploaded (not possible if you didn't size the image) or the image was 'in use' on your local machine and couldn't be accessed to upload. Make sure you close the image in photoshop first before uploading it.
Other than that, the 'far out' possibilities are you have an incompatible/really old browser, or some sort of firewall (personal firewall, norton, etc) that is stopping file uploads.
Ok I checked to be sure it was not open and tried again no luck. I decided to try it without making it private it worked. Can you remove skins after they're posted? It's not a big deal but it's a stupid pic. Thanks!
If you click on upload ... then go down to the phone skin section .. click on the first line .. get template or something like that ... it will download a zip file that has it in it ...

Scott,
I got ahead of myself and uploaded a skin without numbers. In the Art & ... section I uploaded two skins called "In The Car". Please remove the one without numbers. Great Work on the code.
Thanks / Mark
Have you considered adding a download counter for the various skins so we can see which ones are the most popular? Might help create a competitive streak in people.

Done. Does anyone have any good ideas/opinions as to how to provide a 'delete' or 'overwrite' capability? I've considered it, but on another such project (for the a500), I let people delete skins, and some a** h*** deleted _all_ the skins. Passwords are a pain in the rear, since people always forget them. Hmm..
All opinions welcome... even if you aren't sure it's a good idea -- post it, it might lead to one.

What do you think about a 'rating' system? Let people rate their favorite skins? The top rated skins become the 'features' on the homepage?
(this was on the original skin thread which is now lost in time)
Website opinions...
1. How about a function to just archive all the PDB skins into a zip/tar file for a single download? Or run a cron job to do it once a night when new skins are uploaded?
2. if you ever need a mirror site down the road, I am sure some of us are willing to host. I know I have tons of disk space and leftover bandwidth each month.
3. d/l count would be better... I'm too lazy to vote or forget.
App stuff:
3. suggestion for the app itself - far off future when you are bored: the option/ability to set a time period where the selector can randomly (or perhaps allow the user to define a priority list) set the skin based on the current databases (pdb's) loaded.
ie, at 6am let the app wake up the palm (if its idle) force it to the selector and have your app pick a random skin and force the screen update. Since vision wakes this thing up randomly anyways, whats one more app doing it...
It would be nice to have some variation in my graffiti area without alot of effort ... call it lazy?
Thanks for the opinions. I think you are right about the vote idea. You should see d/l counts on the site within a few minutes. I also added times downloaded to the search as a sort method.
I don't think I'll do the D/L all skins option, since there are many private skins, and there would be no 'just new skins' option, etc. Seems to be more of a problem than it's worth.
I like the app ideas, but they'll be "far off in the future" since I'm going to be working on alarm stuff and poly ringers in my free-time next.
The site has been fairly busy, it's had around 350,000 hits in the last 2 weeks. I posted a 'total skin count' on the homepage as well... last I looked it was getting near 350 skins posted!!
I don't need a mirror at this point, but thanks for the offer!
Scott, have a question on the phone skin...I was able to successfully (and privately) upload a few test skins I was trying out, and finally worked out the version I wanted...to my dismay, when I tried to upload the third time, it told me the image size was wrong and to use a 160*65 template...I was using your "clean" template as my base and just writing over that all along, so not sure what the problem is?
I got so frustrated I started from scratch and still get the same result...I am no longer able to upload to the site...sorry to be a pest, but is there somewhere I can email you this jpeg to look over...hopefully you can figure out what the issue is rather quickly...thanks again for the great work... -A

1. Please sort the skins in each category by date uploaded. (newest at the top) This way we can easily go through and see what new skins we don't have. I currently just go to the 'search' area and search for all new skins but this leads to private skins coming up too...which leads to my 2nd suggestion....
2. There really should be some sort of ultra-private function where the skin is not stored on the site at all. If I was to create a skin of a family member or close friend, there's no way in hell I would want *any* possibility of other internet users having access to it. Right now the "private" option is sort of a joke as everybody has access to them.
Please don't take any of this as criticism, I am just making suggestions to make this an even better system. Thanks again for all the hard work.
