Hotsyncing to multiple computers from one cradle

I have already searched hi and lo for the answer to this. I have two I-300's, one for the wife, and one for me. Two cradles, one on her computer, and one on mine. I also have two copies of pocketquicken, one on hers, and one on mine. I only have ONE copy of Quicken, which is on her machine. Everything works great, when I come home from work, I drop my I300 in her cradle, hit sync, then when it's done, drop it in my cradle, hit sync, and let it charge there overnight. She drops hers into her cradle, and all is well. Quicken syncs perfectly and everything is fine. However, due to my inherent laziness, I'm trying to find a way for me to sync with her computer from my cradle. I believe this is an easy task with Network HotSync. The problem is, I want to drop my Palm in my cradle, hit the button, have it Network HotSync with her computer, then without intervention, immediately switch over and hotsync with mine. Can this be done? I know it can be done by syncing via network, changing the setting in the Palm, then syncing via direct serial. However, that's more trouble than I have now. I need AUTOMATION! Any ideas?

Assuming the two computers are networked together, you can do a network synch.

1) It allows using a cradle on one machine (ie yours), with all of the data residing on another machine (which has palm hotsynch installed). All synch activity is on the remote computer (ie hers). This applies to traffic across all conduits.

2) there is some initial setup to be done, but thereafter it works well. if you're an advanced computer user, have some network knowledge (no more than ip address sort of things), you should be able to figure it out.

3) is fairly well documented in the user manuals, and is a std palm feature.

4) be sure to use latest version of desktop (4.0.1) on both machines

5) can be done over a network cable, as simple as a cross-over cable if you don't already have a network setup.

6) I used this to synch to my laptop before I figured out usb synch'g with the i300. I had the cradle plugged into my desktop, yet all the synch data was on my laptop via the nic's.

7) if you need to also synch with the computer that's plugged into the cradle, all you should need to do is right-click on the hotsynch tool tray icon (assuming windows os, here), and uncheck the network synch.

it should work for what you're describing. but, be prepared to spend some initial time setting it up (1+ hours, perhaps). good luck!

Thanks, Cliff. The point of my question is indeed about automation. Is there a way to get the system to network hotsync then local hotsync with no intervention and in immediate succession?

don't think there's anything built in. there are some windows apps that's basically a macro recorder for anything on windows. check out WinBatch which could automate everything, except you'd still have to hit the hotsynch button twice, unless your automation included the Palm Desktop app... If you're really interested in automating, WinBatch should be able to do it.

I like the Nater couple a lot. Would you and your wife like to have dinner with my girlfriend and I? Maybe some of this would wear off on her.

Totally Off-Topic Tangent

Yeah, the wife is pretty cool. I actually ended up buying the I300's because she wanted a phone and a palm, so why not get the combo? I kid you not, since November, it has changed our LIVES. Having pocket quicken has given us the ability to strictly watch the budget. Both of us buy everything with a shared credit card (which we pay off every month, and also earns miles). Watching the money in pocket quicken keeps the credit card bill under control. Having instant access to your net worth and credit card balance has instilled a sense of frugality in both of us, so we now have $3000 left over at the end of every month. I'm saving up a ton of cash. My wife and I maxed our 401k's for 2002 so we'll have $22,000 more stashed away at the end of May. (Did you think my math doesn't work out? 5 months at $3000? Try more than $4000 pre-tax!) We should also have an additional $18,000 in post-tax savings at the end of the year. As we continue to max, we should have $2 million by the time I'm 50. $12 million by the time I'm 65.

I'm 26 years old, I drive a 1994 Camry with 130,000 miles on it. (Still a nice car). I eat frozen pizzas frequently, and fly coach. My computer is a lowly Celeron 400. I live in a modest $265,000 1500 sq ft home across from the street from a $760,000 6500 sq ft home.

I sit on my front porch and look at the big houses across the road. I watch the Audi A8 pull in beside the Cadillac Escalade and I see them get out and look at me, only to turn their noses up with an air of superiority. I laugh and think, "Suckers!" You just know they are leveraged to the hilt. Most "rich" people earn just enough each month to make the payments and worry about money all the time. Funny, I hear them fighting sometimes. Could it be about money?

I'm laughing all the way to the bank. I'm pretty smug knowing if I lose my job, I don't need another one anytime soon. My wife and I don't fight about money anymore. Her and my lust for "the good life" is gone now that we have a bunch of cash.

They say money can't buy happiness. That's exactly true. Spending money doesn't make you happy, having a lot of extra money does... Our I-300's have helped us reduce our spending, and given us the extra money.

Anyway, your results with the I-300 may vary. I guess you can say I'm a very big fan of the i-300... who else can say that it has made them rich?

Oh yeah, and the wireless web is cool, too...
