I am a Kyocera 6035 owner who longs for color. I was glad to see the Samsung announcement and wanted the opinion of you I300 enthusiasts. Here is my question. If someone were buying you a PDA/Cellphone, which one would you buy today?
* The I300?
* The iPaq with a phone add-on?
* The Visor with a phone add-on?
* The color Treo (due in a few months)?
* something else?

I'll save you the time Eli. Just about everyone here will take the I300 hands down. We love the I300. Certainly not a PDA with phone attachment and the Treo is suspect.
We will lay down our lives for our I300's on any given......
On a serious note, it'd probably serve you best to take full advantage of the board's resources and run a search on "review." From the home page if you go to the Polls forum you'll find a thread for first impressions. You've got to understand that people think about purchasing the I300 all the time and the answers are all the same.
Thanks for the advice, MJ. Believe it or not, although this is my first post, I already read all the FAQ and the First Impression posts.
What I haven't seen addressed in the forum are issues like this:
* 8MB Palm or 64 MB PPC device? Is less less?
* Will another platform be better to build on than the i300 (which many posts acknowledge is not going to survive the G3 debacle)?
* Can I edit an emailed spreadsheet on the i300 conveniently?
* Are there enough things it CAN'T do to justify buying something else?
I know the i300 is cool or I wouldn't be considering it. But is it worth the tradeoffs?

Just do your research www search reviews, everyone has different perfences and needs. I choose the I300 has every thing I need size, features etc, 8mb is enough for me. For me the I300 is the best one out now hands down.
I love my i300. It's a great phone. And the Palm OS is a good fit for this kind of device. It is clearly, clearly the best convergent device in the world right now. If you want to have a phone/PDA combination, it's the one to have.
But.
It's not a handheld computer. I see Pocket PCs, particularly the latest generation, as handheld computers. I am a daily Newton 2000 user to this day. The Newton, like the new Pocket PC devices, is a true handheld computer. Processor speed and screen size are the differentiating factors for me, and it's impossible to compare Pocket PCs to Palms on their merits.
Having said that, I'm sure you'll get recommendations for a good spreadsheet program, and yes, like any modern consumer electronic device, you'll likely end up replacing it before the end of its natural life.
But consider your needs carefully, and buy to fill them. Good luck. And have fun.

I had the same concerns you are having and I have to say I am very impressed! an incredible amount of data on this device. In fact... I was very surprised by what I could put on this thing!
I am a teacher and I made set up a database for teachers/security/administrators to have for their palm. This database includes name, 9 periods of classes, locations, teachers, parents, emergency phone numbers, address, ect.... for 1400 students.
I also have a gammet of other applicaitons and games on this thing like e-mail with 200 messages, the golf game, picture viewer, scrable (with dictionairy) and a bunch of other stuff... and I am only using a little over 1/2 of the 8Mb of memory!
I have had no problems with storage! I am very happy with mine!
Russ
ps- I love the looks I get when I check my e-mail messages during lunch... or puting the phone on speaker phone so everyone can participate in a conversation! It's more useful than one might think!
the i300 is the logical step when leaving the 6035.. the color treo is down the road a bit. there is supposedly another phone form samsung coming out (the i330, read about it elsewhere in the board) thats a logical step form the 2.5G i300.. but id have to see pics for it and take alook under the hood...

PPC's have much more RAM because they consume so much more... ie, it's not like a pinto with a 4-cylinder vs a pinto with a v-8...

We've said it once, er many times, we'll say it again - the i300 is here, today. G3 is still just a promise...

don't think you can receive attachments on an email - just teted with a text document. But, I could be mistaken.

Is there anything out there that can do everything that it DOES do?
As for emails, yes you can recieve e-mail attachments. Just use a different e-mail application and you will be able to do this.
Just an FYI... The I300 is very flexible. The palm os allows for a lot of modifications and will allow you to do anything and everything you can imagine.
Not exactly the "spreadsheet attachment" advice you were seeking, but something you might find interesting:
Check out Documents To Go ... It allows you to place docs in a desktop folder, sync them -- and create a matching doc on your i300. You can edit the document on the desktop or th i300, synch, and they'll always match... I edit Word and Excel spread sheets on the fly all the time and they are always up to date after I synch upon return...
