So why is it that sometimes I turn on my display and it looks great and then other times there are vertical lines missing, or at least very faint, down through the display???

I read a review that even mentioned this problem (feature )

OUCH!!!

I never have vertical or any lines missing. I do have my contrast set so high that I have the blemish at the top and vertical lines extending all the way to the top while in phone mode. Check the sticky thread for more on this.
