Did she get the ring around her screen after she installed the photo program?? That's what happened to me. I didn't have a ring about a week ago, then I put Splash Photo on my I300, now I have a ring.
Just to let you guys know...do not think that the yellow ring poped up using any specific program...I went through alot of hell to find out from Samsung that some of the phones that are made...actually more than "some"...have this problem. My phone had it, my friend's has it and after finally arguing with Sprint I got a replacement phone sent to me...and the difference is unbelievible. I mean the actually screen even though it doesnt have the yellow line, it is actually a whiter and cleaner looking, I can actually put the contrast all the way up with no problem...Anyone, I mean Anyone that has any kind of yellow line make sure you get a replacement phone, and for the person earlier in the thread that said the store would replace it when they get it in stock...bullsh*t...you can call Sprint directly and get them to send the replacement to your house within one day, as long as the rep in the store put notes into your account that the phone is damaged. Sprint will send a replacement and a UPS package to send back your old phone. Believe me guys I want everyone to enjoy this wonderful phone...but make sure you guys have a fully functional phone...
P.S. I have been a Sprint PCS member for almost eight years and the quality of their service has become so horrible that if another company had the same phone and plans I would have left a long time ago...but the thing that keeps Sprint my provider is their hardware and plans...if that goes I go too...

Its my girlfriends and I don't think shes too worried about it at this point, but thanks for the heads up. Next time she visits I'll straighten it out for her. She gets so flustered by the technology!
My mom and girlfirend is like that...you can just try to explain something slightly technological to them...and man they get annoyed...lol...but i love them..

Thanks for info on screen burn in. I came to the I-300 in a round about way I purchased a Motorola v60-c at Verison ten days ago, and headed over to Best Buy to look at accessories and Lo and Behold the I-300 was on sale for $300.00 I couldnt leave without it. I returned the Motorola yesterday. This PDA Phone has been keeping me up at night researching software etc. Here's an ergonomics note: The I-300 travels best in my shirt pocket . Better than the smaller but thicker Motorola V60-c.
Thanks for the heads up on the yellow ring around the screen. I will see about getting a new phone. I have both the sprint replacement and the BB service protection...so we'll see which one is easier to get replaced.
The replacement phone falls under warrenty..not Equipment replacement or BB warrenty...its strictly a Sprint PCS warrenty thing..no cost to you only Sprint...dont let anyone charge you anything...doesnt matter where you bought the phone

If we all start to return our phones because the display is not 100.00% PERFECT we may have Sprint and/or Samsung finding that the product is not profitable and may discontinue it or something like that, leaving us REALLY out in the dust (forget SDK, new software, etc).
I'm sure none of us wants that to happen.
My screen has some areas around the edges that are blue-ish when they should be white. It wasn't like that in the beggining. I can live with that.
Finally, before anyone starts shooting me, I'm not a Samsung employee posing as a customer and I have no relation to Samsung, Sprint or any seller of the I300 other than as a customer.
Good point. I've got the bluish blemishes that have been discussed, but the line that traces the screen is a problem that calls for a replacement. Its a bad sight.
I'd just like to add another datapoint regarding the yellow strip/blue thumbnail screen blemishes saga.
I developed both of these over the first month or so of operation, and just recently took the phone to the Sprint store. They replaced it without so much as a raised eyebrow.
Kudos to Sprint, thanks to this forum, and for those with the problem, go get it fixed.
Well I finally made it to the local Spring store. The tech guy showed me his phone and the store phone, which all had the same blemish!
They said that others have had the same complaint.
So it seems that all the phones have this blemish and there is nothing I can do about it!
The phone is still usable and functions great.. but I'm just a college student.. so $500 is alot of money for a crap screen.
It depends on who you talk to. When I took my girlfriends in they were more than ready switch it out and said it was definately a problem. Persistance my friend!!! Go back to that store.
I just purchased this great palm/phone combo. I bought it at my local Sprint PCS store nearby. I called ahead and ask them to charge my phone so that it would be ready to go when I got there. Well low and behold when I they handed me my new phone it had this terrible border around the screen. I told the salesperson, that there was something wrong with the screen. The salesperson, said that they all look like that.....I walked over to a demo model they had on display in the showroom, turned it on...gee no border on this unit I declared...I want a different unit!!I told my salesperson...After a little bit of discussion in the back room, I suppose with the boss or technician. They returned with another new phone..gee no border on this one.. Needless to say I opt for the equipment insurance plan.. I hope my screen stays OK. Don't except this screen as normal...It is not!
You are the first to report this malfunction on a "new" I300. Sounds to me like they were attempting to pass a used one for new. Hard to imagine, but like I said, you are the first.
Whatever you do, don't put your phone in the freezer.
Not even for a few minutes. You have to realize that if you
don't do what the company recommends, then they can give
you a hard time. If they find out that you put
the phone in the freezer, they can use that against you since it's not in the their troubleshooting documentation.
The best thing to do if it's been less than 30 days is to return it. As you can see, there's nothing unusaul about some of these units having this border problem and that should be enough for them to give you one that doesn't have it.
As mjorange pointed out, this is all the reason why everyone should get the $4/month replacement program on their account. Keep in mind though, that there is a $35 deductible.
One other note, if you try to sign up after you activate your phone, then there's like a 20 day waiting period before it goes in effect.
OK, so guess what folks. I've apparently acheived burn-in. Here's how:
I just did an IR hotsync, but forgot about it. When the hotsync was done, the phone was left for a while in front of the pc's ir transmitter. The phone detected the remote computer and put up its "Waiting for sender" dialog.
I came back a few hours later, realized that the phone was still on, and switched to the launcher.
Lo-and-behold, the ghost of the dialog is still there. its starting to fade slowly, but you can clearly see it when you hold the phone in the right angle.
I'm sure it will fade completely, but I can't imagine that this is good for the screen.
