New App! 1-Way SMS / Sprint PCS Compatible Text Messenger (i300)
After reading a few threads on this forum, wanting to send text messages quicly myself, and realizing Blazer can't do it through Sprint's web site... I'm happy to announce my latest app -- "Text Messenger"!
Have you ever wanted to send a Sprint-PCS 1-way text message (SMS) to someone -- and found your Palm device, or Samsung SmartPhone couldn't do it? Well, now you can. Text Messenger allows you to finally send text messages from your internet-connected (or vision enabled) PalmOS 3.5 or later device. Does not use any external proxies, communicates directly with sprint.
Like all of my applications, it is 100% completely *FREE*.
If you really like the app, and want to see continued development, please make a small donation from the i330 headquarters home page at http://i330.nopdesign.com
You can download the first release of Text Messenger at:
If you let it sit another 20-30 seconds after that dialog it will 'come back'. I increased the timeout dramatically because of the i330's slow sprint-pcs vision network response. I'll see about adding a 'cancel' for a shorter timeout.
This version has a ground-up re-write of the network timeout logic, which has been causing problems with poor vision coverage. The new version has a dynamic timeout mechanism. Using the system timer, it times out connections at 1/10 of a second, and retries for up to 30 seconds. This fixes the 'blocking call' that has been "locking up" where vision does not reply an open socket connection.
One thing I did notice: when I click "Send", it dials up and then, as it's posting the form (I guess), it locks up for a small time, 5-6s. During this, there is no dialog or alert on the screen letting me know what is happening. After this pause, it then popped up "Text Message Successfully sent" (and nearly instantaneously, I got the incoming message -- I was sending to myself).
One time I tried a different number I got a "netLibReceive failed (4626, netErrTimeout)", but the error popped up in 2-3s.
No long pauses.
This is an awesome program - something that should have been in the phone from day one. Shame on Sprint/Samsung.
When I clicked "Disconnect" (on my I300) I got a "Fatel Exception" dialog with a non responsive "Reset" button.
After a quick reset all was ok. I sent another message and switched to the phone app to end the data call - it worked fine. I tried sending another message and the Disconnect button worked fine. So it happened just once.
I realize that those aren't good details. Let me know if you want me to report anything else. It's beta, after all!
I just installed Text Messenger v.1.1.0
I must say it's pretty neat and a HECK LOT easier to use than, Sprint's way. I honestly think kindergarteners could have come up with an easier way than Sprint.
Anyway great job...BUT (I know I know...there's always someone there to try and push the envelope) do you think it'd be possible to somehow dial or send the numbers directly to the "Send to #" field? That way you don't have to memorize the number and then write it in (I have extremely bad short-term memory).

Thanks. I'm working on a new release-- that adds a better history (with names!) the ability to lookup numbers from the address book, and support for AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Cingular and Qwest.
I think the lookup feature should fix that problem of entering in the send to #.
_scott dude you are a genious i love the stuff you have made available for the i300 ive put so much on my phone its not funny. just one thing that i would loooooove to have, is there any way that a 2-way sms messaging of anykind can be put on my phone because i have it working with verizon and have unlimited messages but i can only send not recieve. let me know if there is a way
thanks so much for all you have done so far though
Hmm.. which provider are you sending to? That sounds like it may be a vision issue just connecting? Does the blazer browser work for you? Do you always get the message?
I get the same message "Error: authentication failure (0x1233). When I went into the Network settings, under details, the connection type is "PPP", Idle timeout is "Power Off" Query DNS is checked and IP address Automatic is checked. Is this correct? If I change it from "PPP" to "SLIP" or "CSLIP" it connects fine untill I try to send the message then is gives me an error "Could not open connectionto Sprint server. Hostname Lookup Failed" Any Ideas of what to change?
