Hello
New member. I recently obtained a i300 for $50 that has been dropped in water (I know, a little stupid). The unit has not arrived yet but i am guessing that it will be completely dead otherwise the owner would not be selling at this price. My question is if its best to cut my losses and buy a functioning phone for $200+ via ebay or send the phone in for repair (but where!!!) ?
The annoying thing is that i have a 3 month old Kyocera 6035 that is mint but i want that color!! Any input appreciated...<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
I would not buy a phone that was in water. i also would be skeptical about repairs. Corosion over time , etc. will cause a premature failure in the future.
How long ago was it dumped? The water should eventually evaporate from the internals unless it got into a sealed unit like the LCD (which it sounds like it may have). Are you comfortable with opening your phone? That may help things to dry out.

TRY THIS: Put the phone on the dashboard of your car on a hot summer day. Leave it there long enough to completely dry out. I've been told this really works. IMPORTANT: Do not turn the phone on before drying it out. You may cause something to short circuit. GOOD LUCK!!
First of all, thanks for all the suggestions. Here is the latest. Bought a cheap replacement battery from ebay and today charged it and fitted it. The unit powers up and makes various beeeps when you touch the screen. The top-mounted lcd displays nothing and the backlight works if the backlight is the right-top button.
Today I bit the bullet and cracked the unit open, there was some white battery-acid type growth inside of it and so i then stripped it down as completely as possible. In actual fact it came apart easily and most of the circuitry was available. I scrapped most of the white residue off and soaked the unit in distilled water. I allowed it to dry 5 hours in the Cal Sun and put it alll back together.
Unfortunately, nothing new, just beeps and backlight works. So frustrating because its so much nicer and lighter than my kyocera 6035. Oh well, i gave it a try. Sprint PCS obviously wants nothing to do with it. I will have to wait for the i300 to be on clearance sale when 3g rolls out. Thanks anyway guys...
AArrrgghhhhhh!!!!!!! Left the battery charging all day....plugged the phone in....IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!! Beaut display! Called CSR at sprint ....phone WORKS TOO!!! Out the door the phone cost me $45 total. Now i need to sync somehow (no cradle). im like a kid at Christmas....Thanks guys for all your help.
I have had great success squirting everything with WD-30. That will clean the contacts, displace any water and eat some corosion. Let it sit over night and then try.
I have repaired a waterlogged car computer that way.
