Talking USB to Serial WITH CRADLE (if money is no object)

Here it is: I've tested it, it works fine with the cradle. Unfortunately, it costs around $150. However, it provides four new serial ports so the price per port is less than $40.

That's expensive for a usb hub. Belkin makes a 4 port hub that retails for about 50-60 $ at BB & I use it with my cradle.

This doesn't make the cradle connection any faster than 115kbps, but I guess it's useful if you don't have a spare serial port.

jlv, you have tested this adapter and it works with the cradle?

BTW, the reason to get a USB to Serial adapter is not for the speed, but because some computers (like newer laptops) don't have serial ports and don't a slot to install a card.

Also, several of the USB to Serial adapters that work for Palm PDA's don't work with the I300 serial cradle, only with the travel cable.

No, both of my cradles are connected to serial ports.

OK... that makes sense to me.

I just got a brand new laptop today, but of course it comes with no serial port. So now I have to use the USB port. I've read all the previous threads on which brands of USB serial adapters work with the i300. Belkin and Keyspan. I've been searching around the Belkin site and they seem to have a couple of usb serial adapters availabLe. Anybody know if they all work with the i300? Or does only 1? I've read that the PDA branded Belkin one does not work. Anybody? I'm thinking of going through to ebay to get one of these because they are freaking expensive. I only plan to use it with my phone so I don't see a point to wasting 60 bucks on it. I've included the links on the bottom so you guys can check them out.

F5U109

F5U103

F5U012

The first one I think is the PDA one. What I'm thinking is that they all pretty much are the same except that 1 has more ports than the others. One is more complicated than the other, etc. What do you guys think?

I've been using my Palm USB serial adapter (Palm Branded) that I used with my Palm Vx with no problems aat all, not sure if that might be the cheapest solution, but check out pricing.

Hey, can you post a link to the exact same item? I've searched for it on Palm.com and can't find anything. Can you please post a link to the item you are using?

The items name is the Palm Connect USB kit the part# is 3C90201U, and if you go into the palm store, there is a search under the menu on the left where you can plug this in and go directly to it, it costs 29.95, through palm, I'm sure you can get it for less somewhere else. Like I said above, it's worked perfectly for me.

Interesting. Thanks for the information. Anybody know anything about the Belkin usb serial adapters I posted up there? I saw one today at Best Buy, but for $50, I don't think so. Anybody have anymore suggestions? Anyone that would like to sell their I300 compatible serial adapter?

Keyspan

I am using using the (high speed) Keyspan adaptor on my HP laptop running XP and the driver update from the Keyspan website. Works very nicely, no problems, seems pretty fast.
