Here's how I've gotten my i300 and Clie to both sync with Outlook via Intellisync:
Start by opening Palm Desktop and establishing two user names, one for the i300 and one for your other Palm, whatever it is. This allows Intellisync to keep track of which unit is seeking synchronization when you push the HotSync button.
The reason why you have to use the combination of Outlook and Intellisync (or, I suppose another third-party sync program, though I've only tried IS) is because if you only use Palm Desktop to keep your PIM data, it does have the ability to sync two (or more) Palms but will keep the PIM data for each phone under the respective unit's User Name. In effect, you will have two sets of contacts, date books, memos, etc., each of which is accessible by the pull down menu in Palm Desktop for User Name. I wanted ONE set of data on my desktop, and if I made changes in that data, or in the PIM data on either of the Palms, they would all sync together. (WeSync on the web is another way to do this, I've heard, but I've never tried it.) The only other way I've found to keep one set of current data within Palm Desktop is to periodically do a mass export/import of Date Book/Contacts/To Do from one User Name into the other, which is a royal pain.
First step is to synchronize both the i300 and the other Palm, so that after you do the hard reset described below, your apps will reappear upon first HotSync with each Palm.
Then, after establishing two user names in Palm Desktop, start with one set of PIM data in Outlook; ie, sync the most recent data within one Palm to Outlook, and then do a hard reset on each unit. If you are dead set against a hard reset, you risk creating duplicate data but I suppose you could weed out the dups with a little time and a lot of hassle.
Then, open Intellisync. It first allows you to choose which User Name you wish to configure. Choose one, and go through each app (Desktop, To Do, Contacts, Memos) and select Outlook as the program to sync to. Then close IS, open it back up, choose the other User Name and do exactly the same thing.
Also, under the 'Advanced' button in IS you can later choose to NOT receive the verification each HotSync for all additions/changes/deletions, but I don't de-select this option until later because for the first couple of synchs, I like to verify what is actually happening. NOTE that in Intellisync Lite, you do not have the option of de-selecting the verifications, which is annoying enough to have made me buy the full version. One final note: you can also map different Outlook fields to Palm fields in Intellisync (one of the real strengths of IS), but be absolutely certain that fields are mapped in exactly the same way under both User Names in IS.
Now that you have both User Names with the identical configuration, and two "blank" Palms, you're ready to HotSync. Start with the first unit, press HotSync button, choose the appropriate User Name for that unit, and IS takes over. After HotSync and reinstallation of your apps, check your data in Outlook to make sure all is well. Then HotSync the other Palm and again check your data.
I've followed this method about a dozen times, and had little trouble with duplicate data after initial HotSync of each Palm. Now when I'm out of the office and make a new appointment or task on my i300, this appointment is HotSynched to Outlook, and then is HotSynched to my Clie upon its next sync.
Intellisync is good but not perfect, however, so good luck.
