Does anyone have any experience with solving getting the error msg.:
HotSync Error: Connection is lost (6410)
I am:
1) Running Windows 2000
2) Trying to connect sync with Outlook 2000.
3) Running on a Dell cpx
4) Connecting via COM1
I have:
1) Downloaded the latest version of the HotSync Manager 4.0.2
2) Turned off the Infra-red port at the BIOS level
3) Set the pocket mirror to only attempt to sync the address book
4) Set the sync configuration to be PC overwrite Handheld
5) Spent 1 hour on the phone with Sprint PCS 2nd line tech support
6) Contacted Palm Tech Support
7) Took the base sync unit back store and replaced it
And after all of that I'm still get the following in the log after it fails.
> HotSync operation started 05/10/02 11:47:51
> Warning: 10006410

Please understand that I do not mean to use the msg board as a technical support line but I'm desparate! I've gone to Palm technical support who told me they don't support the SPH I300 and redirected me to the Samsung website which came up in Japanese. I went to Sprint who ended up looking on the web for help and could only tell me it looks like a hardware problem.
I love this phone/PDA but I can't get it to do the fundamental operation I need to leverage the ability to stay connected to the source of my information maintained in Outlook.
Sorry for the length of this msg. but if you've made it this far and can help or just point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

did you sync the i300 to an old palm device's database?
--------------------------------------
Not that I'm aware of... I did a new install of the Palm Hotsync manager and the Desktop application from the CD that came with the SPH I300 and then upgraded to the latest version of the Hotsync manager [4.0.2]. I also install the pocket mirror from the CD but did not look on the web for a more recent version.
I have a palm V that I was syncing with my desktop system. Once or twice I tried to sync it with my laptop but could never get it to work with outlook when I was offline. That attempt was over 9 - 10 months ago so I don't know if there was something left behind as a result of that attempt.
How can I tell? More importantly, how would I get rid of the old database if it is sitting out on my laptop somewhere?
My wife just got a new phone (the kyocera 6035 - couldn't beat the price!) (thanks SprintPCSGuy), and according to the doc that came with that phone, all you have to do is delete Saved_Preferences.PRC in your profile's backup folder. That's where the hardware specific settings are stored, which is what hose the i300 when you're upgrading from a Palm/etc.
I know, I know, to be absolutely sure renaming the profile is the most absolute way to accomplish a safe upgrade.... but I'd be willing to gamble that deleting/ renaming/ moving Saved_Preferences.PRC would also work and save lots of time reinstalling s/w.....
Would be curious if someone out there would give it a try!
in a nutshell, anything thats specific to certain files that wont be saved in your palms backup folder. this database could be installed in the backup folder with the new phones DB and could cause some errors.. it did for a few people with the 6035...
