Maybe I ask this in ignorance, but is there a way to silence the message alert without turning off the ringer volume? Is this available in a hack or is this a phone feature that I can not find?

Thanks for the help,

homer

If you go to phone prefs to select your ringers there'll be an option for text and page as well. Unfortunately there is no off feature but there is a beep feature. It seems like there should be a better way to turn this off though.

And this lack of a feature drives me crazy!!! I get about 20-100 text pages a day and the non-stop beeping makes me insane! I have been hoping that someone else would request this hack in case this was a simple setting I was overlooking. But the beeping has criven me over the edge. I had to ask and risk the question.
Although I know its a stretch and the analogy is hard at best, I am starting to feel like Edgar Allen Poe in the Raven.

"But the Raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing farther then he uttered--not a feather then he fluttered--
Till I scarcely more than muttered "Other friends have flown before--
On the morrow he will leave me, as my Hopes have flown before."
Then the bird said "Nevermore." "

"And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted--nevermore!"

Someone please help. If only to save yourselves and stop me from quoting more poetry.
:O

You won't see a caller ID app from me.

I had a pretty feirce internal battle over whether or not to release multi-hack. I'm not going to write free versions of other people's software.

After talking with some people, Multi-hack was sufficiently different from PDAapps' offering. The hope is that the release of multi-hack will "one up" developers to do better.

If I release free versions of stuff written by commercial developers, there will be no incentive for developers to build i300 apps.

Haiku is a form of Japanes poetry. Very simple and basic. I just made that comment because your last post kinda looks like haiku is written.

I found a cool app that will sit in your task bar and check your pop mail accounts and send you an alert to
"yourphonenumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com" and instantly alerts you of an incoming email to any pop mail account. of course it requires an "always on" internet connection to work. I found it to be very useful.
check it out.......
it is called malt Away

sprint,

Your posts bother me. Can you explain to me (in coherent language ) why buying FingerDial or Alert manager or Picteure Caller ID is different from buying an after market GPS system for my car, or do you stand in front of GM's corporate office and ask them to give you a free "update".

A lot of people on this board don't seem to understand this: Samsung is a consumer company. They sell TVs and refrigerators and washer-dryers, and those things do not usually come with updates, or free-updates. Consumer companies do updates, but only for new items that they sell, and then they do recalls. We've already seen four firmware revs for this phone, which must have been bug fixes or optimizations. I am not defending Samsung and I don't like this one bit, but this is the truth. We will probably never see an SDK from Samsung for thois phone.

Companes and independent developers that listen to us on this board and do something to make our investment more useful are no different than the hundereds of other after-market product manufacturers in other industries. The rule of capitalism is if you don't want it, don't buy it.

I do not in any way want sprint's comments to appear to be the views of all (or even a majorirty) of the members of this board.

Sprint, I actually agree with Spiderman here. Well said my friend. I don't think we should mock Sprint's english, however. Afterall, he did say.......
