I300PictureCallerID is now available from our website, www.pdaapps.com .
This application does what the name implies; displays an image
linked with a phone number when a call comes in from that phone
number. There is a 15 day free trial. Please read the html documentation in the zipfile you download to learn how to make image databases for use with this application.
Thanks to a number of people on this board who helped beta
test this product.
This sounds really neat, but can I make images for it on a Mac? Otherwise, I'm f**ked with this app. Also, on the site the little GIF shows the image popping up when using the calculator. Does this mean it doesn't work when its in phone mode? Probably a stupid question but it didn't hurt a bit asking. Thanks.

I300PictureCallerID works just fine in phone mode. We will try to get a screenshot for that scenario available. You should download, install and try the sample image database included to see what things look like in phone mode.
Unfortunately, we do not have a version of the image app yet that will work on a Mac. We will look into building that.
I saved the files to put on my phone as a pdb file, but if i want to add people, how do I get back to that file to change it and put a new one on my phone?
Currently you need to keep all your "square" pictures around. Each time you make a pdb, you have to specify all pictures. Once a pdb is made, you can double-click and install it, and it will overwrite the one you have on your handheld. If you keep the order of images you added the same as before, your phone number association is not lost.
We are working on a version that will allow addition of images to an existing pdb. When this version is available, it will be a free upgrade for our registered users.
for those using this program, remember that the phone number to be linked with an image must be entered with or without area code depending on how it shows up in caller id.
1) If I use a non-square picture, will the program just distort it into a square?
2) Future version: use non-square pictures? Would save a lot of time.
3) If I register, will that give me free registration of any versions for i330, or Treo, or any palm-based phone (assuming this version isn't already compatible with that phone).
4) Future version: bigger pictures?
All I can think of for now. Great product. Thanks.

Here are some answers:
1) Non-square images are compressed distorting the aspect ratio. To avoid this, use square images or nearly square so. Use Paint or Photoshop to crop images to be square.
2) We are working on the next version of CallerIDHelper which will
make it easier to crop images into square images.
3) Your license will definitely be good for all versions of I300PictureCallerID we create for the I300. If the I330 is not much different and does not require a huge development effort , this will probably be true for versions of PictureCallerID if and when we create them for the I330. Even if a huge porting effort is required, we will certainly have an upgrade path for our existing registered users.
4) Larger images are on our roadmap. On the phone screen there is plenty of room to do this. On the Palm screens this is not so clear, and we welcome suggestions on image placement and extent.
Every time I add a few pictures, everything gets reset -- indeed, phone numbers link with the wrong people. Can you set it so that the file name and phone numbers are linked despite adding/subtracting of names (e.g., overwriting of the image database?)
Basically, our picture size is limited by what we could put on top of the "Incoming call" popup (which you see when a call comes in and you are in a Palm application) without losing information in the popup. One option that will allow us to use a larger image would be to place the larger image such that it hides the "Call from" and the "Name of the caller" (and maybe even the caller's phone number). But we are not sure if that's what all people, or even an anyone, wants.

If you want to avoid this, make sure you add images in the same order each time you create a pdb, and add new images last. This is problematic when you want to delete images.
We know this is a problem and are actively working on a version of CallerIDHelper that fixes this issue.
I downloaded (i think) everything for the picture caller ID and I even put a pic on the phone. But for some reason when the person calls there picture will not show up. Can anyone help?
