With the new grafitti and logo hacks, it seems the next thing to customize is the Numpad for the Phone Dialer. The other options the phone offers are just plain bad, so I stick with the default. I think everyone would agree that we can design a prettier phone number key display!
Well anyway, I strongly second this. I actually do really like the skyblue keys, however, so I can't agree that they all stink. But I would really love the ability to skin em.
Even better, how a bout a Palm-based dialer program like TealPhone or the like but is also full screen, and is totally skinnable, and designed for the i300 only? That way we can avoid the Samsung dialer application altogether...?
Why bother hacking the phone dialpad when you can use a totally palm-based solution? I am sure Jake or someone could put together a hack that listens for the phone button press or menu choice, interrupts it and fires up the palm-based keypad/app instead.
Jake already knows how to send the dialing code from PalmOS, and PDAApps has already done the callerid-photo, why not combine all into a really nifty dialpad replacement app altogether?
I would like to add a power feature right out of the gate: the ability to detect a busy signal and auto-redial. That would be the most righteous tool for winning radio call-in contests.
I was actually just thinking about that...how much longer before we've hacked up the phone app enough that we can just write a replacement! : ) I'm sure it's possible, but there are quite a few more things to hack for that to work. There's still a *lot* that the phoneapp does for us...the dialers out there really just send a command to dial a certain number to the PhoneApp, which then does the work. Plus, we still rely on phoneApp for all in-call functions, including, most importantly, to hang up. Nevertheless, it'd be very cool if we could just write replacement phone apps.

Yeah, that's a great idea! Jake, if you write this an I win tickets to some kickin concert, I'll totally take you!
Good idea. I like the concept. My only problem is that I like the fact that the phone app is in Rom instead of flash so that I don't have to take additional memory. 8 megs is just not enough these days. But if the app is good, I would erase 2-3 of my games and make the leap.
