Sprint *paid* to be the exclusive CDMA Treo carrier

Wow ... this just in ...

"Handspring said it will announce Tuesday an agreement with wireless carrier Sprint. The two companies will work together to develop a new CDMA (code division multiple access) version of Handspring's Treo device that will run on Sprint's upcoming third-generation wireless network. . .Handspring Chief Operating Officer Ed Colligan said Sprint paid to be the exclusive CDMA carrier for the Treo device."

Looks like Verizon is just sooooooooo out of luck on the PDA phone devices!

The I300 is going to have some serious competition this summer, if the rest of this announcement holds true. They're speculating that it will be the Treo 270 (color) that is released on Sprint's network, and it sounds like it will be 3G capable right out of the gate. Samsung better start pushing that I330 out the door!

There's soo many good phones coming out shortly; I think whoever embraces the user bases will win out. (Erickson/sony also announced their pda/camera/3g phone; looks sweet..)

Unfortunately, Samsung so far has shown that they don't care about the users.

Samsung will stay *very* competitive!

After all, Samsung was the first in a lot of important categories over the years, and has an extremely aggressive engineering team.

I view the i300 as the single best personal appliance on the market, and believe the i330 is just a steppingstone to a Treo-killer. Not that it needs killing - I looked at the display alongside my i300 and can never go back.

At Comdex, Samsung people talked about new modular phones. Want GPS? FM radio? Family Radio Service (FRS)? TV audio? Camera? Bluetooth? Wireless headset? Flashlight? yada yada -- all to be available as plug-ins to the basic phone. And a common interconnect means you can keep your accessories when you buy the next phone.

If you ever buy a PhoneRing, with holographic projection display and ThinkDial, it'll probably have Samsung's name on it.

The carrier is going to make a difference. I still maintain an account on palm.net and part of me hates to let it go.
They are so accommodating. When our cc changed banks, palm net sent me a notice that they had not been paid and I needed to update my account in 10 days.
I had called them when I got a new palm 7x and then again when comp usa replaced my palm (went dead)
I called them when aol software acted strange, it was aols fault, not theirs. I have nothing but good memories of palm.net.
I'm dreading sprint. I changed from sprint 18 mos ago and had to go back due to the phone.
If the new palm 7 had been color, I would have gone with that and carried a cell phone.
So, even tho handspring may come out with color, it's going to depend on the carried too. It appears to be sprint.
Those to come? I guess we'll have to see.

Jayne
