I am up in VT where GSM just got going...

Would like to replace my palm device and old nokia 5165 with a Palm compatible GSM Smartphone and found out about the Samsung SGH-i500.

We use Macs ONLY.

Is this phone available anywhere unlocked?
My local carrier only offers 4 different phones,
none of them "smart."

What is the ballpark price range currently?

$600 for a Treo 650 is keeping me from it,
I prefer a clamshell design, have interest only
in PALM OS, and and I rarely have a need to type so ...

this Samsung model seems interesting.

Or any other phone options I'm missing?

The SGH-i500 isn't available at all. Never released. Closest is the SGH-i530, whichi also wasn't 'released', although they gave several thousand away at last summer's Olympics. But, the i530 won't work in the states.

yisroel, you may want to reconsider the treo 650, with a new contract from amazon it shouldnt be too expensive, or you can go with sprint and get the i500(it is mac compatible), the smallest pdaphone around.
