i have to say i am impressed, i had been told by some people that went tothe first shows this year that this phone was behind glass and not touchable and it wasn't a 'working" model but basically a plastic shell and concept phone. It apperas from the pic's concept has posted over hte last month or so that there is a real prototype. I am not convinced it will be availble for a while. But, its still pretty impressive
that could be a phone that makes me switch from sprint ( of course, that has to coincide with a nice increase in my salary to pay for the additional costs of switching.)
DAMMIT, i just want to enjoy a new phone for a week without drooling over something else
this is worse than a heroin addiction - never satisfied

As nice as the SGHi-500 may be, its got some shortcomings. Have you seen its thickness? SD, camera, external LCD adds up, and in my subjective feel, the set is way to thick. SPH-i500 is much better balanced in that respect, even though it is not as powerful.
320x320 could win me over, but for now, the LCD is 160x160 with SUPPORT for 320x320, which is more like automatically shrinking hi-res apps to fit 160x160 screens. If you look at all the screenshots of the device, it uses the same 176x162 LCD as SPH-i500. That's why all the documentation is a bit fuzzy in mentioning the LCD resolution, it always says 'support'.

It doesn't look that thick to me. My girlfriend just got a camera phone from sprint, its not as utterly useless as i might have thought, its kind of neat.
I wouldn't hold my breath for this phone and especailly a cdma version. Its at least another year or so away.

Just kidding.
the GSM versions of the i500 and i700 are triband 900, 1800, and 1900 mhz GSM. Cingular and ATT are installing 850 mhz GSM in the USA. TMobile is running 1900 mhz GSM. One real question...
Is the GSM 900 mhz the same as the 850 mhz being launched by Cingular and ATT?

If you are asking if it is possible to make a phone that does GSM 850, 900, 1800, and 1900, from the little I have read on the subject, it should not be a problem. Obviously, just like the 1900 band is not the same as the 1800 band, the 850 band is not the same as the 900 band. A current GSM triband phone (900/1800/1900) would be unable to utilize the GSM 850 band.
To directly answer your question, GSM 850 and GSM 900 are not the same thing. It's a newer band and the chipset manufacturers are still catching up to it. So if it doesn't say that the phone does 850, it doesn't.
Hopefully we'll start an SGH forum as well, but for now, I'll make do with the subject line. I picked up this photo a few weeks age, but never really looked at it until today. Am I seeing things, or is that a bluetooth driver called "Bluefish" on the top line? Also, note the Kinoma program (a definite OS 5 add-in). This is just like the early days of the SPH version - they seem to have the Palm OS down WAY BEFORE the radio part is ready to go.

OKay, lets start a thread about any new info regarding a release date for this beauty! If anyone knows, sees anything please post here! AFAIK, the SGH is supposed to be released Q# 2003, but that seems pretty far fetched IMO. Any thoughts?!
