This phone looks like the holy grail (small, Palm, hi-res, SD slot, etc), except for one thing: the camera. IHMO, a camera on a phone is a negative thing. There are many companies, such as mine, that do not allow cameras in the office. So, this may prevent me from getting this phone.
Also, I guess maybe I am too old and just don't get it. Why do people need to have a camera in their phone? I can see one or two models having this, for special needs, but it seems like a bunch of the new phones will have this. It is especially troubling to understand for a "business" phone such as a smartphone.
If a picture is worth taking, then why would you want to take it in .5 megapixel resolution, with a dinky lens? Cameras are so darn small now to carry anyways.
It seems like the phone companies are just trying to slap on features just because they can. Small is good, hi-res is good, long battery life is good, memory slot is good, and maybe GPS is good. Camera is bad.
I just posted this over at SPS... and I'm copying and pasting it over here....
LOL... this is a funny coincidence. The company I work for (including some guys I work with every day) is at the CeBit show in Hanover, Germany. I just put 2 + 2 together when my boss sent out an e-mail telling everyone that 4-digit dialing to our booth is setup over VOIP. I'm going to call one of the guys I know today and ask him to stop by stand D68 in hall 26 and take a look at the SGH-i500, along with the i700 and the watch-phone. Hopefully he can give me a good hands-on description of the SGH-i500

Were you being sarcastic, mac? Sorry, I guess I'm just a little confiued by that comment. I know Sprint use to have a GSM service in the DC area (Sprint Spectrum) but closed that down and sold the network to Voicestream.

oops... I didn't realize what the time difference was between here and there! It's "party time" there at the show now... but we are there for a week (or however long it lasts), so I will catch them first thing in the morning before my boss is here to listen to me begging our dudes there to play with a phone for me (he wouldn't care... but around "normal" people it's a little bit embarrassing to go to this kind of trouble over a phone... they still can't believe how much I paid for my 7135 )

Yep! I got a 7135... but that was the plan all along. Initially I wanted to have the 7135 and stay with Sprint. But I took a new job a few months ago, and Sprint's reception near my office is nonexistant! So switching to Verizon because pretty much a necessity (not to mention that Sprint is not in any hurry to support the 7135). And since I was switching to VZ, I just jumped on the 7135 from getconnected.com (after receiving all the assurances I needed that I could get my 7135 flashed to VZ software versions when they release it).
It cost $718 (including shipping), and then I had to get an SD card and some other accessories. I'm up to about $950 invested.... and if I can get a solid 12+ months out of it before I'm compelled to get something else I'll be happy

Thanks for that info. There's starting to be enough to have a seperate SGHi500 area soon?

I noticed on the 7135 forum that someone was saying that the GHS wont have a touch screen. I think they are in error. But has anyone heard anything about this?

They were confusing it with the i600 that was also being talked about.
Yeah, and why not start a new board just for SGH-i500 discussion... we started talking about the 7135 over at SPS on it's own board over 9 months ago, and it's still not released by a major carrier......
It's the specs of the SGH-i500 that have me excited. Now we know for sure that it can be done (and if Samsung can do it, than anyone can. J/K! :p )

How is the 7135 with express network compared to the Treo with Vision?
I actually opted to just go with the old QNC data for now. From everything I have been told and have read the EN speeds are not very noticable unless you are using the 7135 as a wireless modem on a laptop/desktop. Right now I don't think it's worth $30 a month more just for use on the 7135. I will take a look at EN when prices come down a bit...
I was a little worried that having Vision for 4 months would make spoiled... but after a few weeks now with my 7135 (and doing all of the same things... SnapperMail, browsing, IM, etc.) I don't really see much of a difference

Amazing, so much about a phone whose predecessor doesn't even yet exist.
I suppose the positive is that the I330 wasn't released until well after we started talking about the SPH-I500 initially. So perhaps this is a good sign for the SPH-I500.

Alan:
I agree, I dont get why I need a camera in my phone. Perhaps we are both old. I would like the SD slot and MP3 player, but I figure if I am going to sweat all over a device at the gym, I'd rather it not be my $700 smart phone.

Regarding the SGH i500 "Samsung hasn't yet said much about price of its unit, but it should appear in the third quarter of this year. "
This was from the article in the above post.
YEAH RIGHT - amatures, the phone that was on display from what information was just a mock up of a design. They don't even have a working phone yet. Its a year and half away easy - 3rd quarter this year. We'll be lucky to get the i500 by 3rd quarter this year.
