My Saga to iPhone switch update

I wanted to provide this info incase anyone else is having issues and thinking of making the switch.

Well I have finally made the change from my saga to the iPhone. Verizon was good about exchanging out my saga for a new unit and extended battery. Now it's sitting on a shelf until someone in the office feels the needs to make a jump to a PDA.

I also now have about 1-1/2 weeks on my iPhone. There are some very apparent differences which have been mostly good, however I am defintely missing some regular features that quickly relied on with using the saga (even my old 755p).

The optical mouse is being missed.
The ease of editting ms office docs required a separate app which parralells the main inbox from exchange.
I'm still getting use to not having any raised keys to touch. This makes typing on the go a little interesting. But now i can type way faster.
The side bar zooming in opera is being missed. Two fingers to zoom at times is a real pain.
Currently there's no standard unhacked tethering method.

Overall I am really noticing that the iPhone is lacking the technical ins and out that the win mob os saga had.
Mms with AT&T is still AWOL.

Overall no2 Is that the iPhone is working great for those in the office that that don't get into the tech side of things. It's realatively simplified.

It works great and I'm glad I made the change. There is so much less frustration now.

There aren't really many technical hangups in apps, etc.

I similarly gave up on my Saga, but I actually 'diverged' and went back to a dumbPhone for calling and an iPod Touch for everything else. So far its working OK. Love the app store for its eas of finding and downloading apps. Lots of good games (which was a big deal as I could never get any good games to work on the Saga) but I DO miss the flexibility of Win Mo. Apple's good but they dumb things down too much, and they're even more inflexible than verizon (which is why I can never see a Vzw iPhone happening).

I've got some good time on the iPhone now and it's perfect for me. But your right on the dumbing down part...for me it's a bit too dumb a little more tech control would be nice.

I think someone that very PC/tech savy would have s problem with it being way too dumb.

All of the PDA Manu can learn a lot from apple. It almost has me wondering about a mac laptop

It's been great. I did have one hiccup with battery but it ended up being a solitare app. Took it off and all is well.

Sorry VZ,sorry Samsung

"app"??? What's an "app"???

I got the Admiral (that's what us boaters call the wives, we're the Captains, but they're the Admirals!) an iPod Touch last Christmas and she's addicted to the thing. I'm sure the iPhone is great just with my experience with the iPod. I'd look into it but I can't live without the "real" keyboard.

Steve, tired of this rain yet? We're actually on the boat due to a meeting last night. I'm not looking forward to trying to get off with the rain, wind, and high tides!

I similarly thought I could never not have a '"real" keyboard (coming from a Treo to the Saga and all) but it is actually quite workable. The advantage of this design over the Saga is that the keyboard is only there when you need it and when you dont (watching movies, playing games, etc.) it is gone. Thus you get to enjoy a bigger screen when you need it.
