Google maps and MS (called bing) at the moment are both free and work fine. They don’t issue turn by turn voice commands or anything though. Just a map that scrolls along as you drive. (Bing might talk- it’s been a while since I’ve played…)
I think most people were looking for it to get unlocked so they could use the above FREE options. I know I was.
For pay I think the vznaz is probably fairly decent- quick and simple. You can try tomtom- they probably have a trial. Many people love tomtom’s software. I’ve never used it myself but I have had 2 generations of stand along tomtom gps units and they are nice. But if I recall the software is pretty expensive.
Garmin stand along units are nice too- maybe they have a winmo verison of their software too.
But nothing but the vznav is going to use assisted gps - so they are all going to have the slow time to locks, issues in cities, and the like that this phone has as a stand alone gps.
ok gotcha- I was thinking commercial because I wanted turn by turn but didn't want to pay 10 a month for the life of the phone. I checked tomtom but the saga isn't supported. Guess I'm out of luck. Oh well.
I use Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile. It works great. I use the external Bluetooth GPS 10x with it. I haven't tried using it with the built in GPS on the phone.
I also use Garmin Mobile XT as well as Google Maps occasionally. Only drawback with internal GPS is the slowness for it to pick up satellites with the internal GPS vs external GPS.

A little off topic, but will an external BT GPS work with Google Maps on a non-updated phone? I have a BT GPS and I have Google Maps installed on my phone, just never tried pairing the GPS...
Bing provides turn-by-turn directions, but not with spoken prompts. It will also ask you if you want to re-calculate a new route if you deviate from the original one. Best free option I've found.
I have used VZ Navigator, and thought it was a pretty solid navigation program. If you don't want to pay 10 bucks every month, there are a couple options. First, if you haven't tried it yet, you can call VZ and they will let you use it for a 30-day trial period free of charge. I did a lot of travelling in June, and used it the whole month without paying a dime. When I called to cancel, I spoke with the customer service rep, and she told me that the service can be activated and deactivated anytime you want, and the monthly fee will be pro-rated so that you only pay for the time that you use it. This could come in handy if you are only intending on using the service when travelling to an unfamiliar city - it would only cost you a buck or two depending on the length of your trip.
I know this isn't exactly what you were looking for when this thread was started, but I just wanted to give you some other options.
I can not seem to get the GPS to work with Bing. Any suggestions?
I did the phone>>options>>settings>>GPS and set it to "all programs" (or at least not "only 911". Then I tried to run Bing with the default settings, and it says "GPS acquiring", then it seems to go to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Any ideas on why the GPS doesnt seem to be working? Anything additional I need to do?
middle of the ocean seams to indicate that it's getting encrypted aGPS data. 1) do you have the rom update installed that enabled stand alone gps?
2) do you have the verizon navigator software installed that uses the encrypted agps?
make sure you have the MR installed and try without the verizon software installed (or at least not running).
In general- the gps works better if you use the quickgps program to download some of the gps data in advance- it speeds the locks. Also you can get a today screen plug in called gps toggle that lets you force the GPS on and then watch if it gets a lock or not.
