My "Saga" with a twist

In May 09 my i760 (without data plan) broke. I called VZW and then Asurion for insurance replacement. No more i760's, will send a new Saga. Data plan was never discussed. Was able to activate my first Saga without data plan but it never worked well and got worse after Samsung software update. Worse phone service I have ever experienced.

Called VZW (Aug 09) and they said it must be phone (Customer Rep never made a notation in my file). Called Asurion they said to bring it to corp store for manufacturer warranty exchange. Closest store 85 miles from my home.

Get there, nothing on my record about defective phone. They finally give me a new phone and now it has data plan which I can't get removed. VZW who sells the insurance and collects the money from me every month, says it is out of there hands, and Asurion must make it right. How was Asurion able to provide me with a Saga without data plan, while VZW says it can't and won't be done.

Has anyone had this experience with insured exchange? I will be contacting Vermont Attorney General's office this week.

VZ's way of boosting sales ?

The CS between Assurion and VZ...seems so separated usually that when it comes together for the store exchange then they say talk to Assurion is so odd..but kind of on-par.

I have had this happen an old cell phone...I got a replacement from Assurion..it stunk...then sent me another one...it stunk...they said go the store sure enough the phone stunk there too...Cz got me a different phone...had probs with it...they handled it as a manufacter replacement under warrenty a few weeks later.

At one of my visit's to a Vz reseller they had a customer in asking the same thing...I want the PDA w/o the data plan. No longer allowed...all PDA's and Smart phone's require a data plan.

Have you gotten on the phone with VZ cust support...maybe tell them you only hot synch and never go on the internet ? There must some way around it to drop the data plan.

It really stinks to get forced into the data plan.
