I have already filled out the forms and spent an hour on the phone with them. The bottom line was you cant undo the MR once installed and they couldnt understand why I didnt like the new software no matter how many times explained it to them.
So fill out the forms folks, maybe they will get it

Form filled out:

I've never, in my life, had an update that hurt more than it helped. The big thing about this update was that it was supposed to enable GPS. Surprise Surprise...It DOESN'T WORK!
Some other new "features" this update has given Saga Owners:
-Reception has decreased. I only got a bar or two in my house before. Now I get NOTHING.
-EVDO is unstable. It decides to shut off and go to 1X mode and will not come out of it without a restart.
-Text messaging is crap now. First, there is no easy way to resend a message that didn't go through. This is compounded by the new reception problems. Second, if you're having a conversation with someone via text messaging and don't leave the window, the "unread messages" pile up. There is no way to mark them as read without exiting and reentering the texting program once for each and every message. If I have a conversation with someone, and we exchange 8 messages, I have to go in and out of the text program 8 times just to clear them all out. Third, now, when you enter the text window and start typing a message, it no longer recognizes your first key press. If you're not paying attention, and you try to respond "lol" to someone, it comes out "ol."
-My phone has locked up twice. It never locked up before, but now, I have to remove the battery to get it to restart.

Seriously, go here and look around: Samsung SCH-i770 - PDAPhoneHome.com

NOBODY is happy with this update. It's crippled our phones and doesn't provide anything new. You need to release a way to revert back to the old firmware ASAP while you pull your heads out of your ass and fix your "update."

Called Verizon tech support today. They are sending me a new phone.

I hope it doesn't have the new update on it.

The tech told me its the first issue he has heard about the issue. "It must be a hardware issue"

He told me to update it if it had the old verison on it. YEAH RIGHT.

Maybe I'll keep having problems and get a new (different) phone.

Thjey sent me two different phones, one new and one refurb. Both were already upgraded. They even searched all of my local stores for me to see if they had a phone delivered prior to the upgrade. None to be found.

found another helper for the gps to make it more usable- besides using lar's ephermeris downloader to speed things up.

I found this GPS Toggle | BAF.cc posted in another forum.

It's a today plugin that you can use to turn on or off the gps. It helps dramatically as 1) you dont need to wait to start bing or google maps to begin getting a lock. and 2) there seems to be a bug or poor choice of settings where the gps chip looks like it shuts down after 60 seconds of no lock. Sometimes you can watch it happen in gps test. So there are times when if you dont get a lock in 60 seonds you will basically NEVER get a lock. This plugin will turn the gps on and leave it on to work around that.

keep in mind leaving it on all the time will use some battery for sure. But it is awfully nice to get almost instant position info in google maps as soon as i open it.

Well, I guess I have to leave all of you (I don't want to-- I really like this device)... After 5 Sagas (Original New, 2 Refurb (original software), 1 refurb(latest software), and finally a brand spanking new (with newest software) and that lasted 1.2 weeks. VZ has decided to give me an Ozone (Not what I want) just to keep me going until my NE2 is ready (~2 months)...

Issues that were never solved (which support had "never heard before":

1. Random Reboots (more some days than others)
2. When phone is "sleeping" no ringing of phone, no notification of text or mail.. it goes as far as showing me there is VM but no missed calls...
3. Not "waking" when pressing power button
4. Reception is poor, to say the least (worse after update)
5. Constant fight between EVDO and 1x with 1x winning 95% of the time (reset required to get EVDO back)
6. Frequent soft resets and battery removals due to lockups
7. I threw in that GPS works like dung for good measure

2. Spinning color wheel that pops up when you open a program randomly coming on.

3. Signal strength is horrible. I can't even use my phone in my living room anymore because the calls will drop randomly. I never had one issue before the firmware update.

4. Data connection is always trying to connect, for whatever reason. However I did find a solution to this issue.

5. Battery life is horrible now. I can't even get 1 days use out of it. Even with a brand new battery.

6. Text messages need to be read many times before they will clear out and be marked at read.

7. MSN messages forward to my phone, when replying to those messages I get charged an INTL TXT because of some issue with the phone only using the first ten digits of the number.

8. Times on text messages I receive are on West Coast time (where the area code is.) But I live in the central time zone. This never use to happen until the update.

9. When switching to GSM mode it deleted the CDMA data connection settings and uses VZW Email settings. Soft reset sometimes resets the data connection, sometimes I have to manually put the settings back in.

I'm sure there are a few other things I'm forgetting... If this replacement is still junk, I'm highly considering dumpin VZW for ATT. Even thought I love VZW service, what good is service if the phone doesn't work properly.

I was gonna try to stick it out with the Saga but a month ago I accidentally went swimming with it. Decided to get the new BB Tour to try. I havent even finished my asurion claim yet for the saga. I dont miss it at all. Dont wanna brag here about it you can see my blog for that.
SO there is my advice for you guys.
"Come to the Darkside (BB). We have cookies!!.....and GPS locks in less than 10 secs....while moving....or in the house....geotagging of pics....better battery life....Google Voice app....over 90mb of open memory after loading 8 or 9 progs....2GB sd card and holster included...."

Sorry, I know I am not helping, but I have been diehard winmo for 4 years and finally can not take it anymore. This device and its update has broken me.

might as well file the assurian claim and pay the 50 bucks then you can seal the saga on Ebay. Likely it will be brand new in the sealed box.

Probably you need to do an esn switch from the tour to the new saga to clear it out of the system but then just switch it back without ever openeing the box.

I have a demo Tour and while it is OK, I can't stand the BB OS. The BB OS makes WinMo look cutting edge. It just takes longer to do things. The Tour hardware is nice, just not a fan of the OS. (Though with the current state of the Saga, I can't blame ya!)

I'm going Touch Pro 2 when VZW releases it. (Assuming they don't nerf it like they did the TP1) Rumor has it, they left it alone. A nice big touch screen combined with a slide out keyboard if needed. It's my perfect phone.

Not to mention the TP2 also has a 3.5mm headset jack

How's the BB with direct push on exchange w/o going through thier bb exchange service ? I need to buy about 4 devices and am really scheptical on a saga or omnia purchase sinc my saga hasn't been the greatest thing. Although I do need to say that since the update my phone's been ok ? Guess I don't really use it hard like I use to with my old treo.

Finaly bought the 1800 battery...mucho better

If you've got an exchange server you're going to need to install BES to use BB's with it. WM is built in thought.

Side note: Why is it that with a BB one has to install BES and then every e-mail in N. America has to travel through RIM servers in Canada? I never did like that back in the days when I ran a BES server. I find mail delivery faster now using WM. Heck, my Saga actually gets mail faster than my office workstation, which is hard-wired to the exchange server!

goodlink (good mobile messaging, whatever it's called this week)- Behaves the same as BES if I understand correctly. The Good server pulls mail off the exchange server and sends it to the Good mothership which pushes it to the phone.

I guess their theory is that there's one (or a small number) of server farms doing all the pushing so it's easier to keep it maintained? It MIGHT have something to do minimizing traffic on the wireless carriers network. I know with good it asks which carrier you use so I just assumed that they dont use the "normal" method to send data to verizon et al. Also I notice that verizon adds an option to all goodlink enable phones for goodlink service- it's free and costs nothing but somehow they know to add that and presumably it has some effect.

Anyway- I get email via Goodlink on my saga before my desktop or outlook web access too most of the time. I guess outlook just blows. Surprise surprise - laughing.
