WTF? Seriously. This update is f'n bull****! 1st, the GPS doesn't work. Some of you have gotten lucky, but NOTHING makes mine work. Second, text messaging is SCREWED THE HELL UP! If a message doesn't go through before I could just hit "Retry." Now I have to go into a completely separate frickin program and tell it to Retry, and that program doesn't even seem to f'n work! Even better, if I don't exit the text messaging program between messages and do it kind of like a chat, and say, I exchange 4 or 5 messages with someone, I have to exit and go back in 5 f'n times before the phone marks them all read! WTF?!
I feel like I'm about ready to throw this god damned phone against a wall. They should offer a free exchange program for a phone of choice for anyone who downloaded this update. Our phones are now MORE CRIPPLED than they were before. I swear to god when my Verizon Contract is done I'm getting the new Android Phone.
A friend of mine has a G1 that works at my house fine. My Saga doesn't get a signal at all most of the time at the house. I dunno if it's a CDMA vs GSM thing or what, but I'm done with Verizon.
Anyway, I have 2 Sagas here. Both had original 6.1. I updated 1 without issue and gps is working -- hate the rest. Second phone bricked during the update and VZW sent me a new (yes New) phone with the update applied and gps works...
GPS on phone 1 usually can lock onto 2 - 3 satellites but drops on occasion.
GPS on phone 2 usually can lock onto 4 - 5 satellites and usually stays locked on.
I agree that this is a POS update... Personally, I am getting closer and closer to going to the iPhone... So, VZW has a year left to get on board with Apple or I'm jumping ship.
Disclaimer: These are only a representation of my opinion. I reserver the right to change my mind or my cell phone provider at a moments notice...
I guess I'm one the few here. I liked the phone before the update. I still like the phone after the update and my GPS works, somewhat poorly but it works...
Well, see, I am sure this is how Verizon viewed this.
People were crying about locked GPS, so they are unlocking it. Problem is, people are now seeing how crappy phone GPS chips are, and Verizon is laughing all the way to the bank, knowing full well that their aGPS solution is far superior when it comes to performance.
Verizon knew the standalone GPS would work like crap. But they are giving us what we want, the opportunity to play with it.

Thats my opinion, anyway.
Heh, the problem is the GPS in the HTC Ozone is absolutly fantastic. Combined with that Quick GPS program it gets a lock in under 20 seconds..
I can get a GPS lock with my Ozone at my desk in a building where I can't even make calls half the time with the Saga update.
I flipping can't stand WinMo Standard so it's not a long term device for me.
I've used VZ Nav on the Saga and it worked well, so again, it's not that the GPS is weak.. it's like it's not getting enough juice to it or something... I'm not sure if that is even how radios work...
I got an unpatched Saga and I plan to work with some Verizon engineers on Monday to do some testing between the patched and unpatched device. I don't what short term solution would come from it though... we will see.
You cant compare GPS "weakness" with VZNav. aGPS helps GPS immensely.
As for the Ozone working great, thats good to hear. But recall that came with it unlocked already. If VZW is to be believed, not all GPS chips are passing a performance standard.
If one to believe them once again, then it obviously passed a QA test before release.

I personally think that the gps works great. To all of you complaining about it not working in your houses...do you really need gps inside your house to tell you where to go? In my car i receive 5 satellites and it works great with Bing and google maps. Frankly i prefer this to my standalone gps unit because i generally try not to rely on a silly gadget to get me places and this is a fantastic backup for when you get lost
I think my biggest issue with this update is how the phone reception/signail has gone right in the crapper. I work in a commercial building everyday and was able to get 2 to 3 bars all day long, EVDO at that. Now I can't even make or receive a friggin phone call. This to me is completely and utterly unacceptable. I finally have a day off tomorrow and I plan on getting on someone at Verizon about this.
But I will do it very nicely of course.
well at least at first I'll be nice. But after I lose my signal at my house I might just lose it.

Is verizon acknowledging any of the issues? I've been lucky to escape the issues with the update (cept that damn messaging app- supposed to fix things, not break working stuff), but it needs to be fixed and much more consistent.

They claim that they have never ever ever ever ever ever heard of any of these problems before...
To defend VZW... This is the answer I have always heard. At least they are consistent...
Your experience is extremely different from mine. It only very occasionally works and only very briefly for me. Each time I think I've gotten it working it will stop working the next time I try to use it. The last time I tried to use it I was out in an open field and Google maps just timed out saying it was unable to communicate with the GPS. GPS Test just hung on "GPS is starting up" forever. I went to the Phone settings and turned GPS off, then went back in and turned it on again, and this jumpstarted things and allowed GPS Test to find it and then Google maps was able to as well. But the number of satellites just jumped around non-stop even when the phone was completely still and not moving. Eventually Google Maps settled down to "Your position within 800 meters" and the number of satellites fluctuated between 0 and 2. There were no buildings or trees within more than 100 yards in any direction.
I suspect that some of the GPS chips or receivers in some of the phones are simply defective, and that I have one of the bad ones, and you have one of the good ones.

If I'm traveling and looking for a restaurant or something I'd rather not go stand on the curb for 10 minutes till the sats lock in
15 seconds for a cold lock for me. Load the ephemeris data and then power the phone down before trying.
Of course google maps gets an instant cellid lock in a second or two but that doesn't count.
