Anyone else's phone become ridiculously unreliable after the update?
Not only is the phone very unstable and freezes up all the time now.
But the service seems deminished.
Texts rarely ever go through the first time and I have to go into the new Text Message program to retry them.(anyway to turn this off and go back to the old way of just clicking retry in the message thread?)
I've dropped a few calls that I wouldn't have before updating.
Is it possible I did a bad update or is everyone having these issues?
Don't know if I should do a hard reset to see if it gets better or what!?!?
knock on wood- mine seems at least as stable if not more stable than before. There do appear to be significant changes that some programs are way way way more unstable on the device than before. (in my case Goodlink was totally fubared on the phone- but actually the phone handled it much better than in the past- the phone never choked- just the program)
So I'd try a hard reset and slowly reinstall yourstuff. Leaving some time between installs to see if you can find a culprit.
If you dont have anything installed then certainly try a hard reset.
Several of us have noticed that phone service seems to be much more sporadic (my working theory is it jumps around between cells way more now than it did before- sometimes to the detriment of a good signal). But i dont recall reading anyone having text message problems like that.
In fact- stinks that you are reporting that we have to go into the resend app instead of just being able to hit resend on the threaded view.
The only two things I have noticed that are bad are the weaker signal and that stupid text message app. Jebus that is the most annoying thing I have ever used and how the heck anybody could have signed off on that thing is mindboggling.
Ill second the hard-reset option. The worst this phone has ever been for me was right after my first hard reset, it was randomly screwing things up lerft and right. One more hard reset and the issues disapeared.
Yes, I had some buggy stuff going on after the update right after the first hard reset. Since then, I've had a few apps that crashed, but I don't think it's any more than usual.
I am ready to dunk the phone in my pool. What a mess this MR is.
Poor to no signal most of the time. Start a call and lose all signal. Most exts fail first time. THIS is what VZW tested for months to 'get it right'???
Thanks ahead for saving me the time of starting this thread, I'm having the same issues with poor reception/service as well after the MR update. I was so pissed in fact that I called customer service, they did their *228, network refresh, and typical hard reset and still no difference, so after noting it in the system, I went to the local Verizon store and they replaced my phone with a new one completely.
Now I'm VERY reluctant to do the firmware update again thinking there may be some serious bugs that need to be worked out....... any word from Samsung addressing this major side-effect to "improving" our phones?
Yea, it was fun that I could finally use the GPS with my Google Maps, but it's not very fun when all my calls this morning went straight to voicemail or didn't come through at all........ not cool
I must be very lucky, have had NO problems since the update (well... on my first go around, I mistakenly tried to install Skyfire with my USB cable attached... it killed the radio on my phone, had to hard reset... but that's not really relevant to the update).
Also, my text message retry works FLAWLESSLY. Sent an SMS to my email address where I had no service, an alert popped up right away that said "do you want to try again when you have digital service?" (or something like that). I hit "yes," and lo and behold, a few minutes after I got service back, the email was sitting in my inbox. The only thing I can say is that I have NEVER so much as opened the "Text Message Retry" app or done any configuration or options with SMS. And I don't plan on doing it. Works now, I'm not messing with it!
About the text message retry. It seems very flaky. Today I sent a message and it failed and the little popup came up and actually gave me the choice to retry.
However, that happens 1 out of 10 times. The other times I just get the little popup saying it failed by my only choice is 'OK' there is no retry choice.
You will have it go down that way, and when it does, it will be so damn annoying....
UPDATE: Yep, after this update i have terrible coverage at my desk. I can get 50% or higher of my text messages to fail. So far only 1 of the 7 that have failed have given me the option to retry.. If I want the others to go I have to launch the worlds most annoying program to try again.

for the first time this afternoon it actually gave me an option to retry.
I wonder (OK HOPE- laughing) if maybe verizon made a change on the network so that now it's automatic that it at least gets the proper error message to ask if i want to retry?
But i still have to ask- why the hell doesn't it behave like most every other phone and just retry on it's own X times or for Y time period or when it gets a good signal again and only give a retry complaint if it times out after making an effort on it's own? very cheesy.

I noticed the HTC Ozone has a text message retry app as well, though I have only sent a few messages and it hasn't failed because it actually gets a friggen signal at my desk..
Oh, also. It has a super awesome program called QuickGPS. It will go out to the internet and download the satellite map data.... It normally has to be done when you are trying to get a GPS lock the first time. The data is good for about 6 days and then it needs to go out and download it again. (You can tell it to do it automatically)
Ok, so I do that and fire up Bing on the Ozone. Now, I'm sitting at my desk where I don't have the best signal. Pre Saga patch I only had a bar or so. Post Saga patch I miss calls all the time and my SMS fails like 50% of the time.... anyway, I fire up Bing and the GPS locates me in under 30 seconds!! I kid you not!
Now, I'm not saying get rid of the Saga and get an Ozone. I've only been testing mine for a few hours and I know there is no way in heck I can move to WinMo standard.
What it does do is get me more excited for the Touch Pro 2 I guess.
When I am somewhere with NO signal (in the subway, at my law school, for some reason), I get the icon at the top of the screen that's an antenna with an exclamation point. When I send a text with that message up, I get the prompt "Would you like to retry?" However, if I have "signal," but it's incredibly weak or not really there at all, but the top icon is still showing 1X or EV and the message doesn't send, I just get the "send failed" message, with no option to retry.
Don't know if this helps, but I'm pretty sure that's what's going on.
I spent over an hour on the phone with VZW last week and they claim that no one else is complaining about weak or poor signal(Noticably, I spoke with 3 different people and got the exact same statement wiht the exact same wording).
I am dropping calls and can watch the signal strangth change from EVDO to 1X and fluctuate from 3 to 0 bars. Since the update, I have dropped a dozen calls and been unable to complete a call for at least 1 in 10 tries. Again their system doesn't even show those attempts. My call list doesn't match what there computers show.
I have to leave my house just to answer the phone... I have a service ticket will be looking at getting a replacement today.
I had the same issue with customer support. They opened a ticket and told me with the holiday it would be 4-5 days before someone in network ops got back to me, and they would send me a free text with status. I thanked them and told them very calmly that the timeframe looked about right, and that by then my number(s) should have ported successfully to AT&T, as I found their reply unacceptable and would just eat the prorated ETF for the 2 months left in my contract. I then asked for a supervisor. The supervisor offered me any phone in the inventory to replace my Saga. As I have been thru every WM phone in the inventory and found the Saga the most suitable for me, I asked them to simply send me an FRU Saga with pre-update OS on it and I would be happy. About 18 hours later my friendly Fedex guy had my replacement at my door. 30 minutes after that I was up and running with no signal issues.
Persevere, and push for what you feel you deserve. And if you need to, throw out the ETF acronym. That moves them!
Anyone else getting the spinning color wheel when doing simple tasks like opening the start menu or selecting items on the today screen? Phone seems really slow since the upgrade. I think I will be jumping ship for the BB Tour.

I'm definitely getting that a decent amount where I've never seen it before, but the overall performance of the device seems about the same (maybe a little slower on wake up, though).
