Angry Unread SMS Count after ROM Update

Ok, I mentioned this in the upgrade thread but I wanted to make sure it gets seen... I'd also like for a few people to verify that this is an actual issue and I'm not going crazy... it's been known to happen.

First of all, the issue seems to be this: you receive more than one text message from a person, or you're sitting in a SMS thread texting back and forth and you've received, lets say, 10 SMS messages. When you click OK to exit the thread and go back to the thread list you'll see that the thread you were just in has (10) unread messages. You enter the thread again, the first "new" message gets highlighted in blue, then you exit again.. now the count says (9).. in order to get the entire thread to be marked as read, i must go IN and then OUT of the thread a total of 10 times. Then it's all read.

It used to be that when you enter a thread, all new messages in the thread were marked "read". If you were in a thread when the message was received, it'd be automatically marked read.

Now there doesn't seem to even be a way while in a thread to mark everything read manually.

Anyone else see this or have thoughts? This is very very very very discouraging, as everything else in the update was so great... this is a major pain in the ass.

I've run into that as well. I find that if you scroll through the messages using either nav mode on the pad or whatever key you may have configured to act as an up or down arrow (I use the volume slider via AEButton) it will mark those texts as read.

Noticed this as well.. kind of a pain since I get a bunch of automated text messages and before I could just open the thread and would all be marked as read. may be another reason to turn off threading as I like to see all the texts in one place. or maybe there is a regedit to fix this new "feature"?

This is caused by a change MS made to tmail.exe. Its not something Verizon did, persay.

All builds of 6.5 do the same, as do newer builds of 6.1.

Why this was done? I have no idea.

Yeah, this is a MAJOR pain in the ass.

Really the only thing about the update that seems to be negative for me.

My solution still works great, all you have to do is scroll through the messages and clears them all out. I use aebutton plus with the volume sliders set as an up or down key to scroll through. I would imagine switching from mouse mode to navigation mode and swiping up on the optical pad would achieve the same effect.

I am using the AE button thing you suggested but if I open a thread and can see those messages they should mark as read not me have to scroll thru 5,6, 7 lines of 4 word txts to clear em all. If i am already in the chat then respond after a msg comes in..Ive seen it. mark it automatically..Work like before..there was nothing wrong with it before

I guess there's a reg hack to turn of threaded text messaging.. that'd probably fix this issue... but having threaded text's is key for people who do a lot of texting -- like myself.

I'm sure MS would say its a "feature" just like the idiotic "feature" that it assumes I identify my friends with 10 digit phone numbers and not their name so when i want to message them I'm just going to punch in a phone number.

(probably the borg are trying to make messaging more like outlook on a pc. Where unless you actually select a message in the list it doesn't get merked as read. They seem determined to make the mobile experience as much like the desktop as possible without thinking at all that they are 2 vasty different environments and uses. idiot borg....)

I was reading documentation somewhere and it was saying that to send a txt message you should hit the fn key and enter the phone number... they can't even get that right.

I think it's ridicuclous too, not gonna argue that point at all. However, until "they" do something to change it or someone finds/makes some sort of tweak to we're stuck with workarounds like this. At least it works!
