Saga MR1 Update Findings Thread

Figured we need a thread to post our findings once we get the device updated.

p.s. wish we had a mod so they could make these sticky...

After the update the first reboot I had a pop-up that said 'SIM card detected, switching to global mode.' (The update is supposed to allow auto switching to GSM when overseas)

Then a big popup that warned me that LBS is on (Location Based Services) and to be aware that third party apps can use it... GPS BABY!!!

I pulled up my own website that has columns and it displayed it?? Is it using that new mobile IE6? It has a mobile and desktop setting.. weird...

Tried to get Live Search to find the GPS but it failed. At first it was using the default GPS Intermediate Driver, but it put me in Africa. Then I saw that the GPS was set to com9, so i switched to that. It tried for a minute or so but failed.

Now, I have a huge storm over me right now with some pretty thick clouds, so I assume there is an issue there perhaps.

Sweet, so now there is GUI to enter an unlock code for the SIM. I think the old way to do it was to hit some funky number codes to get into the system...

Now you just do Start | Settings | Phone and head to the Security tab.

Also the little mail icon at the bottom of the keyboard actually rotates between all your inboxes now.. I like that! I had to map an entire button to do that function.

Woo! I know a few of you will like this one!

You can now reprogram the Mail and Media Player buttons in the bottom right!

Slow? Poor Signal?

Guys,

Is anyone finding their Saga slow, and with signal troubles post-upgrade? I did the upgrade a few hours ago and and it has been SLOW ever since... and signal is fluctuating wildly. Yes, I did a *228 post-upgrade.

performance-wise it seems no slower (or faster). it was a little bit sluggish at first, but now that I've been playing a few hours it feels back to normal. No signal issues.

I am having some huge issues with signal. Absolutely no service where I work where I normally have 2-3 bars. Highly annoying.

And I did the whole *228 thing and didn't seem to help.

Yes, right after I upgraded my signal was crap.. half the time it would not connect.

I think it is ok today, but I'm not sure. At my desk at work my signal was always weak, but now it seems even worse.

to me seems more sporadic. I have one client where I always got 1 bar in a certain area of the building. Today after the update at times I had 3 and other times zero.

Here's something I just notice while sitting at work texting my gf at home...

I was sitting in the text message thread going back and forth. She sent me maybe 9 text messages. When I finally went from text messages back to the main screen, it said "8 new text messages" (in both my SPB phone suite and on the lock screen of S2U2).. I go back into text messages and the thread I was in and then back to the home screen -- the unread count goes down by one... in order to get the unread text count to go to zero I had to go in and out of the thread decrementing how many were unread each time until I hit zero.

This is definitely a new 'feature'... grrr!

Those with signal problems, keep us informed. I'm a little hesitant to do the "upgrade" if I'm going to lose memory and signal strength...

Yeah, I'm sitting at my desk totally stuck on 1 or 2 bars of 1X, where I normally have 1 bar or so of EVDO. Strange indeed.

So as far as signal goes, I did notice something strange even BEFORE I upgraded. About 2-3 times in the last week or so my phone went to 'no signal'. I would turn off the phone radio, turn it back on once or twice and it would seem to go away. I have also seen this only once after I upgraded. I live in upstate NY, FYI. Maybe it was a local network thing.

But I have seen no other signal issues. Getting the same 3-4 bars as always.

Anyone get wireless sync to work properly? I have mine set to every 20 mins but it only syncs if I go to the screen and press the sync button everytime. This was working without any issues with the previous os.

Thanks.
