I found this program doing a google search, and in my opinion it vastly improves the threaded text messaging feature. You can change the font size in text messages without having it affect the rest of your programs (I have my text set to larger, makes using the phone's today screen and email much easier for me, but the text size in the SMS function was too big - nice to be able to change just the SMS text sizing). I think this SMS program does a much better job of presenting threaded texting as a dialog.
More importantly, you can disable threaded text messaging if you don't like it!
According to numerous other posts on the web about WM threaded sms- I belive you can turn off threaded sms in the registry by flipping a single 0/1- without having to install anything- obviously not simple to do quickly if you want to turn on and off all the time though.
I just put my keyboard backlight settings on a schedule. It's something I used to do on my i760 and I think it helped with battery....
Start | Settings | System | Backlight
you have to hit the right arrow in the bottom and you'll see a keyboard tab, from there you can schedule it so the keyboard never lights up during whatever time you set it for. I don't know how much it helps....
Hi all! I will be helping moderate the i770 Saga forum now and also the Omnia forum. I just returned my Omnia (well ok, 3 of them in 5 days) and got my Saga yesterday. I am really liking the Saga a lot!
I will make this thread a sticky as soon as I have the access to do it. I would like to help setup an FAQ thread for the i770 as well. Please feel free to post or PM me any ideas you have for the forum.
Thanks!
to fiddle with pocket internet explorer's settings you need regedits- but for opera just go to the address bar- delete the address that's there completely (eg get rid of the http:// part)
then type "opera:" - a list of pages comes up: about, items in memory, CONFIG (nice web page based config editior), history, and plugins (might need to enable navigation mode on mouse to scroll down to the plug ins one.)
I am new to the world of modifying the registry. I undertsand that you need to download a program like Rezko to do it. However when I search my File Explorer for locations (i.e. HKEY or HKLM/System) I cannot seem to find them.
For resco- You should look for another part of the program- as the file explorere isn't what you want- basically the registry is similar to windows pc registries in it's just a big long text file sort of thing that you need to open and edit. I think it's a separate application/module that you need to install with resco to edit the registry.
Myself I use memmaid. It's another program that does a pile of stuff one of which is perform registry edits. If you install memmaid- then you can use it's "databases" function to open the registry and browse and fiddle to your hearts desire.
be aware that fiddling in the registry can much things up to the point that you need to hard reset.
if my post isn't enough info and you need to ask morequestions- I'd vote that you please open a fresh thread rather then much this one up with a side discussion- just my 2 cents as I'm nobody impostant or anything. Thanks
Want to change default file locations for pics and vids?
1) To change the location that the camera saves stuff- first in the camera go into settings and pick card or device. Then in the registry go to HKCU-software-samsung-camera and you can change the picture and video directories for either the device path, card path, or both.
2) You could fiddle further in the registry to change image viewer opens by default (FYI- these registry values seem to be looked or hidden or something- memmaid reg editor wont see the keys- resco explorer’s reg add in does though if you want to go this route):
Go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSPIMG\1
add your default directory by appending if after pimg.exe with the folling syntax
so make
pimg.exe
in to
\Windows\pimg.exe -directory: "\Storage Card\foo\foo2".
The picture and video shortcut from the start menu points to the MSPIMG value so by adding the directory to the value it will always pull open the SINGLE directory you put there.
3) another option which I think is even better then 2 above is to just create your own shortcuts on the start menu- so you can make one that opens your picture directory and one that opens your video directory – basically the start menu contains links = “lnk” files. Seems they are just plain text with the program, path (if needed), icon (if needed) and then prepended by the number of number of characters in the text part.
So for example:
Means open the program \windows\pimg.exe and point it at the directory \storage card\foo\my videos and they the? means use the icon found in the videos.dll - 80 is the number of characters following the #.
Plus you can name it anything you want- just give it the .lnk file type
So I could put the example text in a file called foo video.lnk and then on the start menu there would be an item called “foo video” that opens the foo video location.
one of the guys at modaco was kind enough to make up the videos.dll to hold a movie real icon so you can create a shortcut for videos that opens your video directory and has an icon of a movie real.
Zip file (glomed from the modaco threads) attached has:
- an example shortcut for pictures and
- and example shortcut for video
- the video dll file for the movie real icon
Edit the 2 shortcuts on your pc in a text editor to whatever you want. Remember to fix the number value at the front to fit whatever the length of your “phase” is following the #. Then put them in the windows- start menu-programs directory on your device. Put the videos.dll in your devices windows directory to get that icon to show up if you wanted a video link.
I haven’t found anyway (YET) to change the default “open picture” dialog- like adding a picture to an mms or an email- I though the regedit in 2 would fix that but nope…
Blank out the "SuspendResume" entry.
Set "CacheTime" to "60". (60 seconds of inactivity)
still need to kill browser to get it to release, but at least weatherbug and outlook (and others hopefully) release the connection. Should help extend battery life.

This has made a huge difference in battery life for me. No ill effects noticed. Opera doesn't seem to release the connection (could be the page i suppose) but everything else does so far, and in a timely manner as well.
It seems to say that there could be some negative impact to changing this. Anyone that has done this willing to test and see if incoming calls still work normally?

Hmm... haven't had many issues yet. It's possible that phone calls and data calls haven't coincided at the right time to bring about the issue. I'll certainly post back if i do.
I also dont have my data set to "push" al the time. I set my email to update every 30 minutes as it's more of a convenience for me than a requirement, and in an attempt to improve battery life. From what i can tell the data connection seems to take almost as much power up as a phone call. I ended yesterday at 70% and as of now today i'm barely at 90% (few emails, few calls, checked a couple pages, weatherbug updating, etc).
As of now i dont know whether the timeout change or blanking the suspend entry had the bigger effect on battery life (perhaps lowering the timeout would help enough). I also cannot comment on how this would affect someone who's using their ppc constantly - if you're always on it this may not be a tweak for you.

I tried this today. I'm using Exchange Push for corporate e-mail, and checking 2 pop account hourly. I'd have to say I got at least a 20-30% improvement on battery life today (I usually get the "low battery" warning after about 8 hours, today it was closer to 11). However, I did notice more of the very annoying "connecting to data network" pop-up warnings while browsing. I REALLY hate those (again, very annoying when using external GPS and driving in the sticks...I don't need to lose my GPS screen just because the phone can't find a VZW tower)
