Microsoft Office 6.1 Mobile Update (FREE)

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

I had to install mine on my card. Seems to run fine. It is almost 8MB.

Do you even need this? Open Excel and look at Menu-About. On my TyTN II, I've already got 6.1 installed.

You may be adding an app that's already present.

Excel on my i760 doesn't have a Menu-> About... so I'm guessing that's enough to say its a different version.

EDIT: I just installed the 6.1 and it is definitely a new version compared to what came with the i760. The new version adds support for MS Office 2007 XML doc formats and also associates itself to handle zip files.

mine did not list version 6.1 so i did the install to main memory. it asked for a reboot and it seems to have installed correctly over the previous version. it now has an about section listing it as 6.1 and reads 2007 documents fine.

Interesting. Since my TyTN II shipped before the i760, I figured it was a cincy 6.1 was on the i760. Guess not.

And it's not Menu - Help - About to check the version in Excel, just Menu - About. If that's missing, it might have been a 6.0 thing.

Yeah, sorry that was a typo. The original version did not have Menu -> About.

It won't run on my i760 - keeps saying "pxl is not a valid Pocket PC application". I installed to the SD card. Anyone else?

Sorry for the triple post - I figured it out.

If you install to the SD card and you have moved the "Office Mobile" folder off of the Start Menu (i.e., it shows up under Programs), you will wind up with two "Office Mobile" folders. The original one will still launch the MS Mobile Office 6.0 apps. If you don't kill all of the apps using a task manager, you cannot open any of the MS Mobile Office 6.1 apps.

I installed it, restarted the phone, and I still don't have anything to see what version mine is.

I see it now, but I had to go to my card to run the program. So, I now have two versions installed?

Yes, but the old version is in the ROM, and you can't remove it from there (wish I could).

I just installed this on my unit and I still have the same amount of free program space as before the install. Works great!

I suspect if you install to the device rather than the SD card, you'll overwrite the old version with little change in free memory.

I'm somewhat religiously opposed to apps on storage cards because it always seems to create issues. Even when you haven't swapped storage cards for one without the app...

I installed on my device and it ate about 7mb, so I promptly removed it and installed on the SD. works fine so far.

Oh and when I removed it, the old office was still present on my device.

Well, so much for that theory.

I'm not surprised the other version was there, though. That's the way of things in ROM.

So this would not be automatically updated when you run Windows Update?

I just uninstalled it and re-installed it onto my device rather than the card. Everything is fine now.

    It didn't for me.

Sure would be logical to think so.

Same with me. I was hoping it would over write the one in ROM. It ate up 7mgs installing to the device. Works great and I see the difference, but now I have two versions on the device.
