I have always turned ClearType on because it make the test look smoother for me. Just recently I decided to try it with ClearType off because some of the words on my today screen looked bad with it on since they were so small. I couldnt handle having the ClearType set to off so I had to turn it back on. That brings me to my question, do you like ClearType on, or off? I am just curious to see how many of user are like me and have to have it on.

Cleartype rendering method only works when the screen is in a horizontal state. This is true of every device. W/o getting into the details clear type rendering is dependent on the physical characterisics of the screen and when you rotate your now looking at the screen differently.

While I'm sure your technically correct, I don't think it's black and white (pun intended), for my purposes on a small 2.8" poor resolution QVGA screens, ClearType for basic text reading is a huge improvement in legibility, even in lanscape mode, especially for tired old eyes that are used to large VGA screens, eg, x50v. Some devices & ROMs do allow ClearType out of the box in landscape mode, eg, Sprint's Mogul and even the current ROM on Verizon's 6700.

I'm not disagreeing that its an improvement I'm just trying to point out that cleartype isn't the same when its in landscape. It might still be better on the eyes but its not the same, hence why its often disabled.
