Exclamation Soft Reset while charging - phone doesn't boot!

Is this normal? When soft-resetting the phone and the phone is charging it doesn't boot. Can anyone confirm this? (This happens with both included A/C and Verizon car chargers.)

The problem, it seems, is that when the phone is being charged and a soft reset is performed, the phone doesn't power up. It goes into a sort of charge-only mode.

This creates a problem for me in that I'm using Sprite 6 (full version, not lite) backup with a schedule. The backup happens at 5:15 a.m. which means the system is supposed to reset, perform the backup, reset again and I'm back to full functionality.

Instead, what happens is that Sprite resets the phone and then it just charges without booting up. (So much for using any alarm functions! )

When I do finally power on the phone (disconnected from the charge cable), the backup process begins, reset occurs a few minutes later and I'm back to running and the Sprite backup report notification is available.

(edited for clarity)

Thanks,

That is the behavior I see, as well. The Q is the same way, and it's really a pain. There is likely no way to change the behavior.

I just tried this, I plugged in the travel charger and hit a soft reset. Mine reboots normally.

Not sure what the issue is on yours.. also I use SPB Backup where it resets afterwards and I don't have an issue.

Hate to say it, but might be a software problem - try hard reset and see if it still does it.

Figured it out!!! ;-)

There seems to be a "feature" that is causing this behavior with resetting for me.

Here's the gist of it:

If I remove/re-insert a batter or swap batteries, I then power on the device. Then, if I use a soft-reset utility or allow the backup to perform the soft reset(s) while charging, the charge-only behavior is evident.

However, if I swap batteries and after powering on and using then use the soft-reset button (on the left of the slide-out keyboard), all of my program-based soft-resets don't care whether or not the device is charging.

So, heads up if you swap batteries - use the soft reset button once before you rely on backup programs or soft reset utilities that might be triggered while charging.

I'd love to hear if anyone else could test and report their findings. (Onlydarksets, this may help you, too.)

Ender, thanks for the tip-off - you said, "... hit a soft reset ..." (I almost never use the actual button, I use spb mobile shell / pocket plus soft reset.)

Yep, that does it for me too!

Great find - this definitely needs to go in the FAQ!

Same issue with SPB Backup and Sprite

I really like Sprite, but I was having this same issue, if it was charging, I would wake up to find the phone off, I would hit the button on the top, it would reboot, do a backup, and if I didn't unplug it from the charger, it would stay off, hit the button again, it would boot up and now it was fine. So, I uninstalled Sprite, tried SPB Backup. I had the same problem. So i determined that if you reboot it while charging, it WILL NOT reboot.

So now after reading this, I am happy, well, as happy as can be with having to do this when changing batteries.

Basically I tested with both pieces of software and it DOES function fine.

Just if you change batteries, after it boots up for you, then do another soft reset using the red button on the left of the keyboard, after it boots, it will now safely reboot while charging.

Interesting issue, wonder if a fix can be found, I just hope I don't ever forget to do this.
