After having my i730 for about 2.5 years, I have to say I am really enjoying my I760.
I have my email checked using IMAP every 15 min. I would like for the phone to connect to the server to get the mail, and upon completion disconnect. I found a thread with a registry hack for the i730 and WM5 but I am not sure that it will work with WM6.
Can I ask why you want it to disconnect? The dormant mode works great, and is the same thing, yet uses less power than disconnecting and reconnecting, and at the same time will check your mail quicker when it tries the next time, using less time on the connection.
Just curious why you want it to fully disconnect...

The reason I was asking is because I thought the opposite. I thought I was drawing more power while connected even in the dormant mode. Sounds like it is a non issue.
I have been a lurker for a couple of years, I just want to say thanks for all of your efforts and info.
It takes quite a bit of power to connect and disconnect, and if you are checking every 15 mins, I wouldn't bother with trying to do that.

Also when in dormant mode if a call comes in it will still allow the call to come through. So don't worry about that either.
In fact the i760 works better at disconnecting (putting to dormant) when you want to make a call, or when you get a call. The i730 would error on your (thus the need for SuperDave's DialParser), but I haven't seen any problems with the i760 and connections...
Dormant mode is faster to connect since you are already authenticated on Verizon's network, an it simply has to wake the connection. Even though the timer increases when it's dormant, it's not transmitting information.

The dormant mode to me seems to be pretty efficient. I haven't fully put my 760 to the test on a busy day, but my battery life seems real good. I attribute it to the dormant mode.
Mrailing, does it make a difference if you are in an area with spotty coverage? I have worked under the assumption that if I was spending time in a spotty area or an area that shifts alot between 1x and EVDO I should not have my active sync set to "As Items Arrive" as that would burn up battery. I have been adjusting it to every 30 mins when I knew I would be in a bad area.
I haven't had an issue. CPOP, Verizon's ability to interrupt 1x networks when calls come in when moving data, works in just about every area now. I have been in places where I bounce from no bars to 1 bar (many of the places I work are like this). The problem with the battery isn't from the data, but from the lack of connection/signal.
When any device has 0-2 bars, the radio has to transmit at a higher power than it does with 3-5 bars. This causes a higher drain on the battery. When you go from no service to service, it also uses more power to transmit, since it has to handshake with the network, check for new voicemail, SMS, MMS, and if you have pushed turned on - Email. So this will drain the battery more.
Also 1x does drain a bit more on the phone than EVDO. Sure it could help to change to 30 minutes if in a bad area, but this is just to keep the radio from having to transmit at a higher power, more so than a data connection issue.
Hopefully this makes sense... Still drinking my coffee this morning...

Has anyone notice if you keep it in dormant mode and try to randomly access your IMAP or POP account it tells you can't connect...but it shows you do have a data connection? I usually go to wireless manager disconnect broadband access and reconnect when I send/receive the mail account then everything is fine. This is my first time with a constant data plan so I'm wondering if this is the norm, or a minor connection glitch?

How do you prevent #777 from turning itself off so that it can stay in dormant mode? I can't find that in the settings anywhere? For that matter, how can you turn it on, without going to a webpage?
If I use MMS and it connects to the net and then stays in dormant mode after sending the picture, does it still use data? I'm asking because I do not use mms enough to get the data plan so i keep having to remember to disconnect it. Am I doing that for no reason or does the phone use data while it is dormant?
Incase anyone else had that question. I talked to a customer service rep (who didn't sound like she knew much) but she said that as long the phone was not receiving or sending it would not be using data. So dormant mode will not use any data. If anyone else has any conflicting information please do tell.

Lester42,
Welcome to PDAPhoneHome.com. I hope you find the site as helpful and informative as I have.
One of the things we ask of members is that, before posting any question, the member search the forums to see whether someone else has already asked the same question. This helps prevent duplicate threads, which in turn makes it easier for other members to find answers to their questions.
I recommend you search the i730 forum for #777. I remember from my i730 days that we had many discussions about disconnecting the broadband connection versus keeping it active. My recollection is that there is a registry key that determines how long the connection remains active. I just don't recall off the top of my head what the key is. Also, some programs, such as phoneAlarm, provide a user interface that allows the user to specify the cut-off time without having to actually open the registry.
Again, welcome aboard!
