Can't unlock a locked phone during calls or alarms. . .

I have had this happen a few times and wanted to see if anyone else has had the same issue and what they did about it.

When I have the phone locked and receive a phone call I can answer the call via the 'send' button or the soft key labeled 'answer'. However, if I need to press a number key (i.e. my office voicemail calls me everytime I get a message and when I answer it I have to put in my code and then press a few keys to listen) I am unable to press anything.

The tough thing is that the option to 'unlock' the phone via the soft key is not available so I can't unlock the phone or do anything. My only option is to hit the end key and call back into my voicemail.

I've also noticed that the alarms will only let me extend them via the touchscreen if the phone is locked. i.e. i can't hit the softkey labeled 'options' and scroll down with the keypad. I actually have to use the touchscreen (not great for 1 handed operation). And the softkey on the left is replaced (but I can't remember what it is replaced with) so it doesn't have the option to 'unlock' the phone in this case either.

It just seems like the hierarchy of what things take precedent may be programmed a bit funky and the auto unlocking upon an event doesn't seem to be consistent.

I understand that you don't want to have to worry about accidental button presses if an alarm goes off while the i760 is, say, in your pocket but then why do they make the touchscreen active if that is more sensitive than the buttons are?

And you should ALWAYS have the ability to unlock the phone as a primary choice ANY time you need to. That option should never be replaced by something b/c you can't activate anything else until the phone is unlocked!!!!

Thoughts or experiences?

Thanks in advance!

Jay

I had that same problem this afternoon. I tried various combinations of buttons and finally gave up and soft reset. A solution would be greatly appreciated.

mrailing answered this for me in another thread as I was having the same problem.

Try turning the screen off and on and you should be able to unlock the phone.

Yeah, as avdavidw mentioned, I just pressed the button to turn off the screen and pressed it again and I was shown the unlock right away. I have actually quit using the unlock on the phone, since the button on the top doesn't let any of the buttons or screen work, and even with it still locked, you can still answer the phone, so I see no reason to lock the device...
