Quickly jump to home screen

I haven't seen this posted anywhere, but you can quickly go to the home screen from any application by hitting the Window button twice in a row.

Excellent I was looking for this.
On my i730 I had mapped a button to nothing to get this to work.

In just about any app except if you are in any of the Settings screens, you can also do this by clicking the red End Call button once.

Sometimes the End button turns my data connection from white to gray - any idea what that means?

BTW, this works in the Settings screens, too.

Just one level deep, though. When I tested before making my comment, I clicked on the Today icon in Settings and was not able to escape out using the end key. I think that is because once you get into an applet that can change settings, the applet wants you to commit or discard changes before normal navigation is allowed. I think that avoids some confusion that could occur if you change a setting and exit without hitting OK to save the change.

When you have a data connection actively connected, and you have it selected and you press the end button, it stops the data connection and makes it dormant. This is why it turns gray, the data connection goes to sleep (dormant) on the press of the End Button.

To test this. On the today screen when you see an active connection, press end, it will make the connection dormant.

Sleeve,

I went to the Settings \ Today screen and hit the side Windows button twice and I was taken directly home. I tried with the side OK button and it only closed each level one at a time.

Thanks for the tip. I will use the Windows button often,

Actually, onlydarksets posted the Windows button idea. I just mentioned an alternative.

I've done that, I just wasn't sure what the effective result was, since it didn't actually disconnect me. So, if I'm using Sling and I hit the end key, it would stop the stream.

Not sure I understand the point of it, but this wouldn't be the first time!

Thanks!

If you hit the window button twice and it takes you back to the today screen does it leave the program running that was open? Or does it close it?

The call end button also takes you to the today screen

On page 8 of the official manual, it says that you can access the today screen from anywhere by pushing the call end button. I tried it a couple of times from different applications, and it seems to work. I found the "hit the windows button twice" approach a bit fussy, but this is probably just a matter of taste. So now we have two quick ways to do it!

Thanks - but that's mentioned in post #4. The caveat with the End button is that it also cuts off your data connection (i.e., makes it dormant). If you are downloading a file or connected to streaming radio, it's going to stop when you press the End key.
