I realized the same problem. I was using the Tritton AX Bluestream. In the bluetooth menu I disabled audio device. For some reason when it is selected I can't use the bluestreams call functions. Anyways, whenever I turn the bluestream off and then on I have to reconnect it and then both the hands free setting and the audio device setting are checked. I want the audio device to stay unchecked!
Do you think this is a Samsung i760 issue or a WM6 issue?
I'm starting to eye that new LG Voyager. What do you people think?
If it's the same car (assuming you have a hands free BT intsalled in it) you dont have to re-pick the device. If it's the same BT device it should keep it selected as hands free. At least that's how it works for me.....
Mark, this is not how it works for me. I am only using one car/BT device. Everytime I shut my car off, it unchecks Handsfree. I don't use a headset and have only tried it with my Prius. Do you have multiple BT device profiles on the phone? Maybe it would help if I linked up a headset at least once too.

Each of my cars has a BT Parrot hands free kit.
I dive the same one during the week and I can come and go into this car not a problem all week.
On the weeekends I drive the other car. So when I first get into the car for the weekend I have to select that BT deice and set the handsfree check box and I'm good to go until Monday morning.

So maybe my problem is Prius specific. Does anyone else have the problem that doesn't have a Prius? I know some people earlier in the thread with Prii had the same problem.

Much as I admire your ongoing carrier conspiracy mantra, Mark, the legacy lies with Samsung as documented with the Blackjack on AT & T. It was just this week that BMW owners found the hard-coded hack that prevents Blackjacks from working with their car BT systems. It was literally hard-coded in NoAutoConDevice in the AudioGateway key, an entry to block BMW systems from pairing. Delete it, and bam, suddenly well dressed people are bursting into Starbucks buying the place a round of soy lattes.
The Blackjack also has the multiple connect problem and the failures with Jetware. Samsung has a misguided idea about how Bluetooth is supposed to work.

Lets see what the end result will be.
Care to place a bet at who's at fault?

Like I've said, I respect your position on the issue and appreciate the attention you bring to it. I think we presume too much knowledge to ever be able to tell, but I'll certainly acknowledge that Verizon could have chosen this option over a more flexible option when the alternatives available were presented to save money on Bluetooth support costs, or whatever. I don't think that's how it played out.
On the other hand, I'm baffled whether Samsung or AT & T blocked BMW users who simply needed to remove the block to get the full function they paid for. Certainly it wasn't due to a failure in Samsung's interoperability testing, because lifting the block granted perfect usability, so is AT & T on the hook for that one? I can't clearly pin that one on Samsung either.

While it is fun to fix the blame, it is much more satisfying to fix the problem. Perhaps someone will have figured it out in the near future.

Even if someone could do a simple fix like having an icon on the today screen for each device and just clicking that would change the setting to that specific device. I wonder if Bruce at PocketMax is capable. This sure is a PITB. I change devices twice a day.
I played some games with some registry files. An could click on one of them to activate the bluetooth for my car, but it would not work for my jawbone.
For some reason, the phone remember the pairing, but no services that exist on it after connecting to the car.
I called VZW tech support about tethering, which have to pay $15/mo (lame) anyhow, he asked if he solved all my issues I said I having an issue with the bluetooth in my car (see previous post) and he said let me get all the information about your Pioneer headunit, so I report this to VZW and Samsung, so the more we complain the better, the better chance we might get a patch/ROM upgrade etc.
Moral of the story: CALL IN THE PROBLEM MAKE THEM KNOW ABOUT IT!
I called Samsung and registered my complaint about both the prius issue and the switching between multiple BT devices issue (same issue?). I was sent to a level 2 rep who briefly consulted a level 3 rep, but ultimately said there was no solution. I had him add this site to the documentation to show that there are others with issues. At the end of the call, he said that Samsung "may" look into this and "may" add some info about the problem on their FAQ, but that an update would be highly unlikely.
Unless everyone who has this problem calls in, I doubt it will get fixed by VZ.
I have a Plantronics Voyager 510 headset. It is the only BT device currently connected to my phone. This headset gives a distinct tone in the earpiece when it connects(pairs) to my phone, and a different tone in the earpiece when it loses the connection (like when I walk too far away from the phone).
The headset disconnects several times a day, most notably when I get in my car (which does not have any BT connectivity). Sometimes it reconnects, sometimes not. Several times I have gone into the phone BT settings and saw that the headset handsfree option had mysteriously unchecked itself.
This is just wild speculation, but wonder if one of the BT problems is actually a connectivity problem (i.e. poor signal strength) that ultimately leads to some default error resolution that unchecks the handsfree box in the BT setup?
I think part of the issue is that the Bluetooth Audio Gateway on the i760 is handled by a DLL that comes with Microsoft's Voice Command (vcbthag.dll). Microsoft has historically come up with reasons why VC doesn't support Bluetooth, only to be contradicted right in their own blog. It's clearly a matter that the standards aren't standard enough for their liking, and they dismissed Bluetooth in its early life too much to create enough critical mass that everyone just does it the way Microsoft does.
So it seems that in order to get miserable VC capability actually supported (to an extent) in WM6, the gotcha is that you lose device switching. If we start doing btagext and btagextmodule DLL swaps from xda ROMs, we'll likely have to then hack back what we lose in VC ability.
I tend to think that the modding community is going to fix this before anything official will be done. There is still a lot to tinker with and next to nothing out there for solid work so far.
I have a bluetooth freedom mini gps and a S9 stereo bluetooth headset....both reconnect without doing anything extra...is this strictly a headset issue?

Headset or handsfree device. Yes

I have been reading your forum for a while and do appreciate all the helpful tips everyone contributes.
Maybe someone out there can help me.
I have a new i760.
I have a 1 year old motorola h700 (I love the feel of this one)
I can pair the two together, BUT
I can NOT initiate a call with the BT, or end a call with the BT.
I must use the phone itself.
Spoke with verizon for >1hour they could not help me.
done hard/soft reset, repaired a zillion times
went to verizon store and tech there said
this new phone does not allow for voice command/dialing via BT
please tell me this is not true.
If it is, I think I have to get rid of the phone and go back to my i730.
Please help.. thanks
I thought you would like to know that all my BT headsets work as you desire except for the H700. I stopped using that one since it does not work roperly with my TyTN II either. Sorry.

Well... which ones do you have that work.. Please share!!
Yea, I knew about that route to the BT menu, but that's way too long for me to do everytime I get in a car (about 6-8 times a day). I really need a single button press at most.
1. Select the right menu.
2. Press the up navigation once.
3. Hit the Center OK button.
4. Select the BT device you won't.
5. Use down navigation button to select handsfree.
Anyone have a one button way to do this?
Is there some scripting thing?
Or button mapper that will map to the "handsfree" tab?
Or, what file opens this "handsfree" tab? Is it something that can be clicked on?
I can't find anything that will do this... hope some one can!!
